Mission Statement: Formation of highly educated, aesthetically mature personality cherishing national and European humanist values, competent in foreign languages and advanced IT- technologies, successful and competitive at domestic and international labor markets.

History

Department of Arts and Light Industry Technologies has been functioning since 2004 (till 2012 – Department of Humanities)

For this period it grew in the number of Ph.D holders – 4,, 3 persons are currently working towards their degree at PhD programs from different universities of Ukraine (Kyiv, Pereyaslav-Khmelnitsky), 3 persons - for Doctor’s degree.

The effective combination of scientific schools gains, application of methods and art techniques from different regions of our country enables the staff of the department to help the students of the School of Market, Information and Innovative Technologies .better reveal their creative potential. The philosophy of cooperative learning and teaching enhances the outcome.

Aim of the program:

To form and develop general and professional competences in design (within different objects of professional activity) aimed at obtaining of knowledge and skills to work in design and to develop design objects, to learn techniques of artistic, cultural, structural and functional, technological design specifications of a particular 3D object and complex design object or design project.

Learning outcomes:

Upon completion of the study program the student will demonstrate:

 

  1. Fundamental understanding of basic and complementary components of design
  2. Competence in 3D and academic drawing techniques
  3. Proficiency in arranging graphic design environment and ability to work with different materials and tools
  4. Proficiency in modern systems and technologies of design
  5. Ability to work with different tools and devices performing various types of design work and considering individual aspects of design objective

Aim of the program:

To form and develop general and professional competences in the field of garment manufacturing aimed at obtaining knowledge and skills to design competitive sewing products and advanced manufacturing processes of sewing as well as ability for further education.

Learning outcomes:

1. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the processes fundamentals in filament, adhesive and welded joints; wet and heat steaming of wares, key influence factors and laws of their interaction.

2. Competence in conducting pilot research of seam quality and wet and heat steaming to identify rational operation mode.

3. Competence in making technical drawings and using findings: patterns printing and their transfer to be used in compatible computer programs in technical documentation and presentation of technological decisions.

4. Competence in designing new clothes patterns using CAD elements to implement them in production.

5. Computing skills in solving productions tasks.

6. Skills that ensure competent participation in solving production tasks related to garment quality assurance technology.

7. Competence in using standardized methods of raw materials composition analysis for garments; to be competent in distinguishing materials of different composition, their manufacturing processes and purpose; to identify fibers properties in origin and structure; to assess impact of different factors (chemicals concentration, dyes, temperature, etc.) on technological process; to determine formaldehyde content in textile, to choose optimal evaluation methods for fibrous content of textile.

8. Skills in determining anthropometric characteristics of stature to design clothes; checking the correctness of design drawings of details for clothing of various purposes; working in an environment of modern CADs.

9. Competence in choosing proper type of sewing machine depending on the characteristics and properties of materials and types of clothing.

Research

The Department research focus is within the spectrum of research at School of Market, Information and Innovative Technologies of the Kyiv National University for Technologies and Design.

The major research focus is “Strategy for Development of Higher Educational Institutions: economic, socio-cultural, Informational, Innovative and Cultural Aspects”. Other research areas:

  • The Concept of National Mental Spaces as the Philosophical Foundation of Ukrainian Integrative Development”;
  • “Ergonomics, Working Clothes Design and Spatial Design”.

The Department produced 9 monographs, 282 scientific articles, 75 scientific conference abstracts, 2 textbooks (approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine) and 105 teaching manuals.

The Departments members participated in international and Ukrainian conferences, 176 in total, exhibitions (93 presentations).  

Tamara Gordova’s personal art exhibition was hosted at Cherkasy Museum of Local History (27. 01. 2013 – 04.03.2013);

Tamara Gordova and Iryna Popova participated in The All-Ukrainian art exhibition “Ukraine – the country of kozak glory” (Cherkasy Regional Art Museum, 9.10.2013),

Tamara Gordova’s personal art exhibition “To you, with you and without you” (Cherkasy Regional Art Museum, February, 2014), dedicated to St Valentine’s Day ;

Exhibition - auction “Cherkasy Artists to ATO Fighters” (Cherkasy Regional Art Museum 19. 07. 2014);

Exhibition “Ukrainian Folk Decorative Painting (Hryhorii Galagan Chernihiv Art Museum, 28.08.15 – 06.09.15),

All-Ukrainian exhibition dedicated to the Artist`s day (Cherkasy Regional Art Museum, October, 2015).

Students of the School mentored by the Department members presented 268 scientific reports (among them 61 in English) and 300 art works.

Senior instructor Mykola M. Malynka got research grants from The University of Warsaw and conducted his research there in June, 2015 and in November, 2016 hosted at the Department «Artes Liberales».

The annual seminar in 2017 will discuss the issues of “Research into Modern Ukrainian Society Transformational Processes: philosophical, social and cultural and creative aspects”. The proceedings materials were published and released.

The Department is the founder (since 2005) of the annual scientific students’ conference.

Students taking courses provided by the Department were participators and winners of many scientific festivals and contests:

  • The ХІ th and the ХV th International contest of young designers “Pecherski Kashtany” (N. Orlova – 1st prize holder in the nomination “Decorations”, 2014);
  • Social advertising contest “We Care for Family and Work” (S. Kovalenko – 2nd prize holder in the nomination “Social photo/picture”, V. Aminova – 3d prize holder in the nomination “Social photo/picture”);
  • International children and youth creativity festival “Lytovska feyeriya” (M. Chabanenko – 1st prize holder in the nomination “Fine, decorative and applied art”, 13-17 January, 2016, Lithuania);
  • The VIIth Interuniversity photography exhibition – contest “Haryacha Kryga” (M.Stasyuk – 3d prize holder in the nomination “The World around me”, “Creative search”);
  • The XXVIth International Graduate Diploma Project Competition for Architectural and Design High Schools (K. Kostomakha – Diploma of the 1st Class, A. Svirgun – Diploma of the 3d Class; 25-26.10.17, Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas);
  • City Contest “And the Cossack Spirit Revives”, dedicated to the 525th anniversary of the emergence of the Ukrainian Cossacks and the 100th anniversary of the formation of Free Cossacks, for the best illustration to a literary work on the Cossacks (A. Krykun – Diploma of the 1st Class, 23.03.17, Cherkasy);
  • ХІІІth All Ukrainian Student Festival on Advertising (R. Zadvorny – 3d prize holder in the nomination “Advertising Video”, 23.11.2017, Kyiv).
Teaching Staff

Training is provided by a highly qualified teaching staff, among them 7 associate professors and 3 senior lecturers.

Tetyana G. BABYNA, head of the Department of Arts and Light Industry Technologies, Ph.D. in Philosophy, Associate Professor.

1982 – graduated from the Lomonosov State University in Moscow. School of Philosophy.

1982 -1986 – Ph.D. Training Program (full-time student) at the Institute of Philosophy; Academy of Sciences of the Soviet Union.

1987 – Ph.D. in Philosophy from the Institute of Philosophy; Academy of Sciences of the Soviet Union.

Since 1991 – Associate Professor.

Professional experience – 31 years.

The author of more than 98 scientific publications, 10 manuals and textbooks on the issues of spirituality, cultural innovations and national mentality.

Doctoral dissertation: “The concept of of National Mental Spaces as the Philosophical Basis of Ukrainian Integrative Development”

Dr. Olena P. YERSHOVA, Ph. D in Philology, Associate Professor of the Department of Arts and Light Industry Technologies.

1983-1988 – Sumy Makarenko Pedagogical Institute, Department of English.

1991-1994 - Ph.D. Training Program (full-time student) at Kyiv Institute for Foreign Languages (Kyiv Linguistic University). 

In 1994 Olena P. Yershova defended her thesis “Semantic and functional features of expressions that convey surprise (on the material from the English) in specialty 10.02.04 – Germanic languages.

Since 1997 – Associate Professor.

Prizeholder of 3 International grants (Boston University, MA, USA; Junior Faculty Education Program (1996-1997), Berlin Free University; Institute of North American Studies; Senior Scholar Research Program (2001), The University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa, USA; Fulbright Program (2011).

Professional experience – more than 20 years.

The author of more than 92 publications.

Research interests: “Historical dynamics in lexical and semantic fields in English (cognitive aspect)”, “The autonomy of Ukrainian universities”.

Dr. Nadiya A. YEFREMENKOVA, PhD in Technical Sciences, Associate Professor.

In 1978 – graduated from Poltava Cooperative Institute. Specialty – “Industrial trade Goods and Commodities”.

 In 1988 – graduated from Moscow Ordena Druzhby Narodov Cooperative Institute.

In 2007 - defended dissertation “Trade analysis of epoxide paint and lacquer materials” in specialty 05.19.08 – Industrial Commodities Science.

Nadiya A. Yefremenkova has a patent on an invention № 81584 Україна, МПК С08L 63/02 Epoxide and silicon-based organic composition for surface coatings.

Professional experience – 31 years.

The author of more than 25 research publications.

Dr. Tetyana Z. ALEKSANDROVYCH, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor.

Graduated from Taras Shevchenko National Univeristy in Kyiv. Specialty – “Ukrainian language and literature”. Major research field - “Ukrainian literature”. PhD thesis: “Poetics in Grygoriy Skovoroda prose”.

Professional experience – 21 years, 13 years – at University level

Research interest: “Ukrainian philosophic prose of the XVIIIth century”.

Tamara F. GORDOVA, Associate Professor, Artist Emeritus of Ukraine,  artist - master in Applied and Decorative Arts, National Union of Artists of Ukraine (member); National Union of Artists of Ukraine,Cherkasy Regional Affiliation Exhibition Committee (member)

2007 – graduated from National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture, Department of Arts and Critique.

Participated in  many exhibitions of all-Union, all-Ukrainian and international level

Tamara F. Gordova works (decorative paintings, panel paintings with thematic content, painted Easter eggs) are housed and displayed in museums and private collections in Ukraine, England, Bulgaria, Germany, Izrael, Canada, USA, France, Moldova and Russia.

Authored more than 80 personal art exhibitions.

Iryna I. POPOVA, Associate Professor.

In 1990 - graduated from Kryvyi Rih State Pedagogical Institute.

Professional experience – 32 years, at university level – 13 years.

Author of research publications on  Education in Design.

Developed educational resources in training courses on “Drawing and Painting”, “Interior and Furniture Design” and “Basics of Visual Arts”.

Iryna I. Popova is in charge of cultural and educational programs for the students enrolled in the program “Design”. She regularly co-authors in conferences and art exhibitions with students enrolled in the programs “Computer-aided Interior and Furniture Design” and “Graphic Design”.

Courses typically taught: “Drawing and Painting”, “Interior and Furniture Design”, “Interior Industry and Technologies”, “Materials Science and Interior Décor”.

 

Tetyana V. BAIDAK, Associate Professor.

In 1985 – graduated from Melitopol Pedagogical Institute.

Professional experience – 32 years, at university level – 13 years.

She regularly co-authors in conferences and art exhibitions with students enrolled in the programs “Design and Technologies of Sewing Products”.

Research interest: “Ergonomics and Working Clothes Design”.

Nataliya M. SHCHERBYNA, Senior Instructor

In 1975 – graduated from Kyiv Institute of Light Industry.

Professional experience – 39 years, at university level  – 11 years.

The famous Ukrainian fashion designers – Aina Gasse and Viktor Antonenko took her training courses when students. Nataliya M. Shcherbyna provides consultancy on creativity issues to students enrolled in the program “Artistic Designing of Costume” in preparing their personal collection.

Mykola M. MALYNKA, Senior Lecturer.

Graduated from Pereyaslav-Khmelnytsky Grygoriy Skovoroda Pedagogical University, Program “Pedagogics and Methodology of Secondary Education. Ukrainian language and literature”.

Research field “Ukrainian literature”. PhD thesis: “Poetics of Ukrainian Chronicles of the XVIth century”.

Professional experience – 6 years.

Research Interest: “System of characters of Ukrainian cronicles of the XVIth century”.

Svitlana V.DMYTRYUK, Senior Instructor.

Graduated from Bohdan Khmelnytsky State University at Cherkasy. Degree in “English and German” in 1996. Qualification – “Teacher of English and German”. In 2015 completed PhD Training Program at “Pereyaslav-Khmelnytsky Grygoriy Skovoroda Pedagogical University” (Specialty – 13.00.04 – Theory and methodology of professional education).

Professional experience – 20 years.

Reasearch interest: “Professional training of teachers of foreign languages”.

For every course taught at the Department there is a set of developed educational resources. Students. Creative Works and Exhibitions

Students have the opportunity to implement their ideas, create individual and group collections of clothes as well as participate in students’ contests.

Students’ awards at international and regional contests and exhibitions:

Students K. Kostomakha and A. Svirgun, enrolled in the program “Design” took part at the XXVIth International Graduate Diploma Project Competition for Architectural and Design High Schools and received the Diplomas of the 1st and the 3d Class (25-26.10.17, Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas);

 

Student A. Krykun, enrolled in the program “Design” received the Diploma of the 1st Class at the City Contest “And the Cossack Spirit Revives” for the best illustration to a literary work on the Cossacks, dedicated to the 525th anniversary of the emergence of the Ukrainian Cossacks and the 100th anniversary of the formation of Free Cossacks, (23.03.17, Cherkasy);

Student M. Chabanenko, enrolled in the program “Design” won the first prize in the nomination “Fine, decorative and applied art” at the International children and youth creativity festival “Lytovska feyeriya” held in Vilnius, January 13-17, 2016.

 

Students of the School enrolled in the Program “Technology of light industry products” presented their personal collections in the event «LUBAVA FASHION DAY» (March 14, 2015).

 

Student A.Ruda, enrolled in the Program “Technology of light industry products” presented her personal collections of clothes "Trypillian illusions" and "Breath of the past" at the XVth International Young Fashion Designers Contest “Pecherski Kashtany” at Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design on May,19-20, 2015.

Faculty and students of the Program “Light Industry Technologies” presented their creativity works at “Education Fair” which took place in Cherkasy, at “Lubava” Trade Center, May, 29-30, 2015.

 

 

Students enrolled in the Program «Design” took part in social advertising contest “We Care for Family and Work” (supported by “EU Delegation to Ukraine”) in Kyiv, March,12, 2014.

 

Student Kovalenko S. won the second prize in the nomination “Social photo/picture”.

Student Aminova V.won the third prize in the nomination “Social photo/picture”.

 

In March 2014, KNUTD main building hosted the exhibition "10 years of Cherkasy School of Market, Information and Innovative Technologies". Students and faculty of the School presented their creativity work pieces.

 

Student N.Orlova and her collection of decorations “Nature and Art” won the first prize at the XIVth International contest of young designers in the nomination “Decorations”.

 

 

The School hosts workshops and trainings of famous artists. Svitlana Ustymenko and Olexandra Telizhenko, who are members of Ukraine National Union of Artist, gave their master classes here.

Nowadays effective professional training is guaranteed only by theoretical training ensured by relevant practical skills. Therefore students of the Program “Design” have their field practicum at Cherkasy regional enterprises (Furniture Factory “Livs” in Smila, Cherkasy Wood Plant, Cherkasy Printing Shop, advertising agencies in Cherkasy, “Weise-Style ltd”, Cherkasy Garment Factory “Space”, Cherkasy Fur Factory “Ant”).

In June 2015 and November 2016 M. Malynka, Senior Lecturer of the Department, at the University of Warsaw as the grantee.

The students who complete their full training course in the Program "Light Industry Technologies" are highly competitive in the job market. The students who complete their full training course in the Program "Light Industry Technologies" are competent in:

  • Ways of enhancing the quality of sewing products;

The students who complete their full training course in the Program "Light Industry Technologies"  gain performance in:

  • Modeling, designing and developing sewing products;

The students who complete their full training course in the Program "Light Industry Technologies" are qualified to apply for the positions of:

  • engineer, designer, production design engineer at sewing enterprises;
  • Researchers in research institutions.

The students who complete their full training course in the Program “Computer-aided design of interior and furniture» are competent in:

Technology of working out technical documentation for projects (sketches and drawings, drafts and demo- pictures, diagrams, work projects, models);

  • material specification;
  • raw materials types and properties;
  • technologies in furniture production;
  • the procedure and rules of using computer-aided design;
  • management and marketing fundamentals;
  • modern and prospective interior design trends.

The students who complete their full training course in the Program “Computer-aided design of interior and furniture” gain performance in:

  •  professional drawing techniques;
  • using standard techniques of furniture production as well as  developing new;
  •  drawing and technical drawing techniques;
  • developing design projects of goods for household  and industrial purposes, interior design of offices and buildings;
  • selecting materials for interior  and furniture decoration.

The holders of the diploma are qualified to:

  • apply for the positions in state, commercial, and joint venture design companies or  furniture and interior;
  • start their own business in the field;
  • teach at higher and secondary educational institutions.

The students who complete their full training course in the Program “Graphic Design are competent in:

  • methods and techniques of graphic design and advertising;
  • Internet-technologies, word-processing and basics of programming;
  • design regulatory documents;
  • publishing and printing industry.

The students who complete their full training course in the Program “Graphic Design gain performance in:

  • applying methods and techniques in advertising products design;
  • using graphic and word processing editors;
  • using  publishing systems (e.g. QuarkXPress);
  • using graphic programs (e.g. Adobe, Illustrator);
  • managing the whole line of project process.

The holders of the diploma are qualified to:

  • apply for the positions in state, commercial, and joint venture  companies of interior design and furniture design and manufacturing
  • start one’s own business in the field;
  • teach at higher and secondary educational institutions.

The students who complete their full training course in the Program “Artistic Designing of Costume” are competent in:

  • technology of products manufacturing, methods of their design;
  • product specification, raw material properties and types;
  • modern and prospective fashion trends;
  • range of products, design and details of the products, methods and ways of performing models in the material;
  • structure and principles of  sewing machine etc.

The students who complete their full training course in the Program “Artistic Designing of Costume” gain performance in:

  • using equipment, tools and devices exploited in their work;
  • professional drawing techniques;
  • drawing and technical drawing;
  • using graphics software in design projects.

The holders of the diploma are qualified to:

  • apply for the positions in state, commercial, and joint venture  companies of costume design and production
  • start one’s own business in the field;
  • teach at higher and secondary educational institutions.
