Thematic excursions for students to visit cultural heritage sites have already become a good tradition at the Department of Entrepreneurship and Business of the Faculty of Management and Business Design. So, on October 31, 2023, 1st-year students of the Department took part in a thematic excursion "Medicine of Old Kyiv: Figures and Monuments". The purpose of the excursion is to familiarize students with the history of medical development, important historical events, and the activities of prominent personalities in Ukraine.
The main object of the tour was the National Museum of Medicine of Ukraine in Kyiv.
Since 1976, the National Museum of Medicine of Ukraine has been housed in the old building of the former Anatomical Theater and is one of the most important objects of cultural heritage of Ukraine. An experienced museum guide conducted an informative and interesting tour for the students.
The museum presents the development of medicine in Ukraine from ancient times to the present day. The museum's exposition includes unique documents, books, samples of specialized professional literature, and medical equipment from past centuries. The figures of doctors and patients made of a mixture of plastic and silicone look as if they were alive. Each room in the museum is unique in its own way.
During the excursion, the students had the opportunity to see the original interiors of the museum, in accordance with the period of activity of famous Ukrainian medical luminaries, portraits and portrait figures of famous scientists and doctors, and dioramas dedicated to the most significant events in Ukrainian medicine. Of particular interest were the facts about the life and work of famous Kyiv doctors M.I. Pyrohov, V.O. Karavayev, V.P. Obraztsov, V.O. Betz, D.K. Zabolotnyi, M.M. Amosov and others, who made a significant contribution to the development of world medical science and practice. Many of their discoveries are still used by modern doctors around the world.
At the end of the excursion, the students visited a diorama with fragments dedicated to the events of World War II, as well as expositions on the Holodomor in Ukraine in 1932-1933, the Chernobyl tragedy and an exposition dedicated to the present, namely the Russian-Ukrainian war, which Russia unreasonably and treacherously started and is losing.
The excursion to the National Museum of Medicine of Ukraine made and left unique deep impressions on the 1st-year students of the Department of Entrepreneurship and Business, and also contributed to the formation of awareness of the importance of the activities of Ukrainian doctors in the past and today, national consciousness and the development of patriotic feelings.
