MEETING OF STUDENTS OF THE SPECIALTY 182 LIGHT INDUSTRY TECHNOLOGIES WITH THE POTENTIAL STAKEHOLDER “UKRAINIAN KOSSACKS” LLC

Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design cooperates with many stakeholders who help to improve the educational process within the educational programs of the specialty 182 Light Industry Technologies. With many signed cooperation agreements, new partners are constantly being added. Cooperation with the University is designed to strengthen the personnel potential of enterprises thanks to our students and graduates, who will be able to undergo internships, traineeships and subsequently be employed by the company.

On April 11, 2024, at Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design, as part of the Textile and Light Industry Week, on the initiative of the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Fashion, Natalia Ostapenko, a lecture was held by stakeholders – representatives of “Ukrainian Cossacks” LLC with the students and teachers of the Department of Fashion and Style, the Department Fashion Technology of the Faculty of Arts and Fashion.

Nataliia Pryadka, Head of the Human Resources Department, and Alla Morozovska, Head of the Production Department, introduced the history of the company, the range of products, and the material-technical base of production to the students of the first (bachelor’s) and second (master’s) levels of the educational programs “Design and technology of garments”, “Styling, design and artistic finishing of fashion industry products”, “Textile technologies of fashion and interior space” and “Fashion industry”.

The speakers talked about the activities of the Ukrainian production and trade company, including the production of military ammunition (tactical clothing, ammunition), textile clothing, and leather accessories (bags, wallets, accessories). They also emphasised the current trends in the industry and the future employment prospects for students in the field of garment production. In particular, she classified the main professional abilities that are most needed in the modern labour market: from knowledge of today’s promising, modern automated design systems and tools to the personal human qualities of future employees. It was also interesting to hear about the calculation procedure and approximate salary level of various specialists in light of the current state of the industry.

All those present were impressed by the story of the creation of the company in the first days of the invasion of Russian troops on the territory of Ukraine and the combination of professional experience, volunteer activities and the desire to support the country for the production of military ammunition, which was immediately and free of charge sent to the war zone. The listeners learned with interest about the repurposing of production for the manufacture of products for the Ukrainian military and participants in the Territorial Defence Forces of Kyiv, about volunteer activities and rapid expansion in the first days of the war.

The speakers also covered information about the difficulties of a sewing enterprise’s work during the war, the prospects and development of production, the peculiarities of the supply of materials and the selection of accessories, and the specifics of the certification of military garments.

During the event, the representatives of the company “Ukrainian Cossacks” emphasized that even in wartime conditions in Ukraine, there is an opportunity to start and develop a business in the garment industry, and today many manufacturers need specialists with qualifications in the textile and garment industries. In addition, professionals in the specialty 182 Light Industry Technologies – fashion designers, designers, and technologists in the production of clothes, shoes, and accessories more than ever are in demand in the labour market today.

The meeting took place in a friendly atmosphere. It was informative and exciting, and it aroused interest and lively discussion among the students and teachers. The participants of the event asked questions and they received comprehensive answers and some useful advice. The teachers joined in with questions about modern materials, technological solutions, and equipment for the production of military clothing, and shared their professional experience in the production of certain elements of special clothing and equipment. After the discussion, the students looked at the products provided by the lecturers with great interest.

The Dean of the Faculty expressed her gratitude to employers for the initiative, which gives young people the opportunity to receive mentoring, study and prepare for their future professional careers. In her speech, she was also invited to join the KNUTD “Career Days” event, which is scheduled for 04/30/2024, invite students of the specialty 182 Light Industry Technologies to the enterprise for internship.

The representatives of “Ukrainian Cossacks” LLC expressed their readiness to contribute in every possible way to the initiated cooperation, including the practical training of higher education seekers by providing the opportunity to undergo industrial practice at the enterprise before they begin their career path. It expands horizons, talents, and opportunities for young people!
