ROUND TABLE WITH STAKEHOLDERS OF EDUCATIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL PROGRAMS OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PHILOLOGY AND TRANSLATION “UKRAINIAN LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE AND ENGLISH PHILOLOGICAL STUDIES” AND “SECONDARY EDUCATION: ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE”

The scientific-pedagogical team of the Department of Philology and Translation of the Institute of Law and Modern Technologies strives to constantly improve its educational and professional programs and strengthen practical orientation of specialists training, therefore it regularly interacts with stakeholders.

On April 18, 2024, a round table was held at the Department of Philology and Translation with stakeholders of the educational and professional programs “Ukrainian language and literature and English philological studies” and “Secondary education: English language and literature” specialty 014 Secondary education of the bachelor’s level of higher education, namely: with representatives of the academic community, employers and public organizations and associations interested in social partnership.

The moderators of the discussion were the guarantors of the specified educational programs: PhD in Philology, Associate Professor Svitlana Dvorianchykova, PhD in Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Iryna Pshenychna, and the Head of the department, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor Yelizaveta Isakova.

 

The event, which was held in a mixed format, was attended by:

– PhD in Economics, Associate Professor, Director of the Institute of Law and Modern Technologies of KNUTD Tetiana Vlasiuk;

– PhD in Philology, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, Professor of the Department of Philology and Translation Ivan Dzyra;

– Doctor of Philology, Associate Professor, Professor of the Department of Philology and Translation Olena Yufereva;

– PhD in Philology, Associate Professor, Associate Professor of the Department of Philology and Translation Oleksandr Muntian;

– PhD in Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor, Associate Professor of the Department of Philology and Translation Iryna Kornieieva;

– Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of International Relations and Scientific Cooperation of the Institute of Pedagogy of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine Natalia Aristova;

– PhD in Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Foreign Languages for Specific Purposes of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University (Poltava, Ukraine) Svitlana Shpetna;

– Senior Lecturer of the Department of Slavic Philology, Director of the Ukrainian Cultural and Educational Center of the Baku Slavic University Lesia Kerimova;

– Teacher at the Kalush Lyceum named after Dmytro Bakhmatyuk of the Kalush City Council of the Ivano-Frankivsk Region, Employee of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Branch of the Small Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Vitaliy Pivtorak;

– representatives of the teaching teams of the Kramatorsk comprehensive school of the I-III degrees № 24 of the Kramatorsk City Council of the Donetsk region and the Kramatorsk secondary school of the I-III degrees № 25 with specialized training.

 

 

The moderators addressed the participants of the meeting with an opening speech, emphasized the importance of involving stakeholders in the updating of educational and professional programs to improve their content in accordance with the needs of the modern labour market, and familiarized the stakeholders with the main characteristics of the educational programs “Ukrainian language and literature and English philological studies” and “Secondary education: English language and literature”, with their main goals and educational components that contribute to the formation of general and professional competences and the achievement of program learning outcomes.

The guarantors of the educational programs published the positive results of monitoring the educational process in the 2023-2024 academic year: analysis of the results of the survey of applicants “Disciplines through the eyes of students”, “Academic integrity and the study of awareness in relation to the resolution of conflict situations”, “Academic freedom and a student-centered approach to learning”, “Practice orientation of the educational program”, as well as the results of the “Survey of stakeholders regarding the improvement of the quality of educational programs at KNUTD”. In particular, in the 2023-2024 academic year, students delivered reports at conferences, participated in competitions, attended open lectures by scientists and practitioners, and took part in national and patriotic education events. Applicants of the educational program “Ukrainian language and literature and English philological studies” attended practical classes on the Ukrainian language as a foreign language and a meeting of the scientific group “Mastering Ukrainian: countries and people”: they watched the joint work of teachers and applicants of foreign languages and developed separate tasks under the guidance of teachers. The staff of the Department of Philology and Translation recognized the learning outcomes of the students of the discussed educational programs acquired in non-formal education.

The moderators emphasized the significant expansion in the 2023-2024 academic year of the circle of stakeholders of the educational programs: signed agreements on cooperation with foreign higher education institutions and partner organizations: Baku Slavic University (Azerbaijan), Tskhum-Abkhazian Academy of Sciences (Tbilisi, Georgia), Sokhumi State University (Tbilisi, Georgia), non-governmental public organization “International Cultural and Educational Association (ICEA)” (USA). Students have the opportunity to participate in the bilateral program of international academic mobility for students of higher education of KNUTD with Baku Slavic University and the joint Ukrainian-American project Ukrainian Students International Communication Club (USICC) with the non-governmental organization “International Cultural and Educational Association (ICEA)” (USA).

 

 

Stakeholders shared their own experience of training teachers of the Ukrainian language and literature and English language and foreign literature in Ukrainian higher education institutions, work as a lexicographer, and generally praised the content and organization of the educational process of the discussed educational and professional programs. The participants of the round table supported the proposals for improving the quality of training of specialists:

– regarding the improvement of the list and constituent educational components and the deepening of the study of certain topics,

– ideas about strengthening cooperation with bases of pedagogical practice in general and those of them where the teaching of the Ukrainian language as a foreign language is introduced in particular,

– an initiative to develop the foundations for the implementation of a dual form of education under the educational program “Ukrainian language and literature and English philological studies”.

The round table was held in a collegial, professional and productive atmosphere. Based on the results of the discussion, the guarantors and participants of the educational and professional support groups of the educational programs “Ukrainian language and literature and English philological studies” and “Secondary education: English language and literature” decided to take into account a number of suggestions from stakeholders for their renewal and improvement.
