From August 28 to September 4, 2024, the Faculty of Design of KNUTD took part in the KYIV DESIGN WEEK festival - design week in Kyiv. KYIV DESIGN WEEK is an event that covered different locations of the city and presented the works of more than 50 participants, presentations, performances, lectures, master classes and other creative events took place.
KNUTD together with partner locations formed the KYIV DESIGN WEEK 2024 map.
Among the partner locations of KDW 2024 were the following organizations and institutions: MacPaw Space, "SENS" bookstore on Khreshchatyk, Museum of Folk Architecture and Life of Ukraine in Pyrohiv, educational institutions of Mykhailo Boichuk Kyiv State Academy of Decorative and Applied Arts and Design, Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts, School of Art x Craft, School of Calligraphy Art and I", Ukrainian Fashion Education Group (UFEG), Scientific and artistic platform "Ostriv", RISODENTSIA and others.
During the KYIV DESIGN WEEK festival, teachers and students of the Faculty of Design of KNUTD presented online lectures and an exhibition of creative works of young designers.
On August 28, 2024, undergraduate and post-graduate students of the Faculty of Design of KNUTD became participants in the KDW Forum 2024 on the topical theme "Design, City and Citizens", organized by the Design4Ukraine Association.
On August 29, 2024, an online lecture "Stages of developing clothing collections: sources of inspiration, design practices" by Kalyna Pashkevych, Doctor of Engineering, Professor, Dean of the Faculty of Design, was held. The lecture was attended by students of the EP "Fashion Design", other educational programs of KNUTD, participants of Kyiv Design Week, as well as students and colleagues from various educational institutions of Ukraine. The lecturer talked about the stages of development and means of harmonizing collections, their types, gave examples of various creative sources and ways of transforming them into ideas for clothing collections. Among the stages of creating collections: formulation of the design-projecting task; formation of the project concept of the collection; creation of the design project of the collection, special attention was paid to the conceptual aspects of the development of modern collections and modern decorative decoration.
On August 29, 2024, students and teachers of departments of the Faculty of Design of KNUTD attended the presentation of the installation and the book "Contemporary Ukrainian Crafts | Traditional crafts in modern execution" in the "Sens" bookstore in the heart of Kyiv on the street Khreshchatyk. More than 20 Ukrainian craft designers were able to present their works in the publication. A meeting with publishers, authors and talented artists was also held as part of the event.
On August 30, 2024, the Kyiv Design Week program hosted an online lecture "School furniture: history and modernity" by Danylo Kosenko, PhD, Head of the Department of Interior and Furniture Design of KNUTD, in a hybrid format. The lecture was attended by students of the "Environmental Design" EP, other "Design" EPs of KNUTD, and participants of Kyiv Design Week.
The lecturer outlined the history of the development of school furniture, starting from the Middle Ages. It was shown how the typology of specialized school furniture was formed, furniture for teachers' work, for students, and demonstration equipment were made. The lecturer paid special attention to the trends of cultural development and philosophical and pedagogical concepts that influenced the organization of the school, introduced the audience to outstanding philosophers, teachers, doctors, and designers who contributed to the development of school furniture. The lecture ended with an open question: "How can I create a design that would not limit the user's own creativity?".
On September 2-3, 2024, students and teachers of KNUTD visited the "Design of Freedom" installation project at the Art Arsenal, which was the result of cooperation between the organizers of KDW and the Ukrainian Fashion Week team. "Freedom Design Space" is a manifesto of vitality and hope, embodied in human time, kilograms and meters of materials, in an attempt to share worldviews and exchange them. Anastasiia Biletska, curator of Kyiv Design Week, spoke about the installation. She noted that together with the UFW and IK-architects, they joined forces to create a special space for interaction, to inspire changes in the creative industry, to understand the city and people through a universal language that they know best.
Students of the Faculty of Design of KNUTD presented the exhibition "My Ukraine - united and independent!" dedicated to the Independence Day of Ukraine (curator of the exhibition is Oksana Maznichenko, Associate Professor of the Department of Graphic Design of KNUTD) within the framework of the KDW festival. The exhibits, created by students of the Department of Multimedia and Graphic Design under the guidance of teachers, highlight the courage of the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, popularize volunteering, raise the topic of restoration of cultural values after being hit by enemy missiles, present the national symbols of Ukraine, demonstrate the patriotism and desire of all Ukrainians to win.
Also, students of KNUTD had the opportunity to join the lecture hall of Mykhailo Boichuk Kyiv State Academy of Decorative and Applied Arts and Design, the master class "Typographic accidents: from a brush to digital content" at KNUKiM, an exhibition of plastic upcycled panels by N. Lopatyuk on the basis of the scientific and artistic platform Ostriv at KNUBA and other useful and educational events in the field of design.
