On behalf of the rector of KNUTD Ivan Gryshchenko, Doctor of Science in Economics, Professor, Academician of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, Kalyna Pashkevych, Dean of the Faculty of Design, visited the University of the National Education Commission (UKEN), Krakow, Poland, from April 23 to 26, 2025 to participate in the events of the International Festival of Contemporary Art “Three Seas” as part of the implementation of the project “Three Seas Initiative Cultural Cooperation Network (3SICCN)”.
In 2024, rector Ivan Gryshchenko initiated the participation of KNUTD in the project “Three Seas Initiative Cultural Cooperation Network”, an agreement was signed during the summit in Vilnius, and for the second year the Faculty of Design of KNUTD has been actively involved in the project’s events.
KNUTD representative Kalyna Pashkevych attended the opening of the exhibition “Imagined Communities – Between Reality and Vision” at the Gallery “Podbrzezie”, where the design project of Danylo Kosenko, Candidate of Art History, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Interior and Furniture Design, and Oleksandra Buimister, a student of the Department of Interior Design, was presented. Polish colleagues highly appreciated the level of work from KNUTD – the project of school restoration in Bakhmut (Ukraine). The concept of imagined communities, developed by Benedict Anderson in the 1980s, depicts nations as communities that form their sense of belonging through shared narratives. Today, in times of globalization, digital social networks, military conflicts and planetary crisis, these communities transcend traditional political, cultural and geographical boundaries, so the aim of the exhibition “Imagined Communities – Between Reality and Vision” was to explore how design can be used to create more inclusive, just and sustainable communities. The exhibition will be open for viewing until June 8, 2025.
During the opening of the exhibition, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts of UKEN Lukash Murzhin, Dr. Hab., Professor, presented the signed agreement “Three Seas Initiative Cultural Cooperation Network” to the Kalyna Pashkevych, Dean of the Faculty of Design of KNUTD. On behalf of the rector of KNUTD, Kalyna Livianivna thanked colleagues for their cooperation and expressed intention to further jointly implement the project.
The visit also included a participation in the opening of an exhibition of students from the Faculty of Arts of the University of the National Education Commission at the Museum of Engineering and Technology in Krakow, announced as one of the events of the Festival “Three Seas” and “Krakow Art Week”. Young designers presented their works at the exhibition, and residents and guests of Krakow could visit the exhibition and evaluate the creative design projects presented.
There was communication with colleagues, exchange of experience, familiarization with the educational process and methods of training designers at the Institute of Arts and Design of the University of the National Education Commission. Katarzyna Wojdyla, Dr. Hab., Head of the Department of Visual Communication of UKEN, conducted an excursion, introduced the material base and educational and methodological support of the institute, and discussed areas of further cooperation between the Faculty of Design of KNUTD and the departments of the Institute of Arts and Design of UKEN.
Visiting the partner institution contributed to the popularization of higher art education of our University in the European space, exchange of experience, establishment of contacts and international cooperation.
We sincerely thank our partners from the University of the National Education Commission and the project “Three Seas Initiative Cultural Cooperation Network” (3SICCN) for their cooperation, we wish inspiration and success to the participants of the International Festival of Contemporary Art "Three Seas"!
