On April 1, 2026, a webinar “Circular Apparel Design Strategies” was held, organized by company “Redress” for students of the first (bachelor’s) and second (master’s) level of higher education programs “Fashion Design”, postgraduate students of the specialty B2 “Design” and lecturers of the Faculty of Design.
“Redress” is a non-governmental environmental organization headquartered in Hong Kong, which aims to accelerate the transition to a circular fashion industry by training and empowering designers and consumers to reduce the negative impact of the clothing production process on the environment. Redress employee Ekta Chopra spoke about the fashion industry's sustainable manufacturing strategies and why they are important for designers.

Ekta Chopra spoke about the opportunities for designers to create clothing models using environmentally friendly technologies: from textile waste, from recycled fibers, waste-free cutting, size-free clothing, production of clothing taking into account methods of its further disposal, etc.

Joining the speaker were 2025 Redress Design Award winners Kara Chan and Hugo Dumas, who shared their own methods for creating collections. The Redress Design Award is the world's leading sustainable fashion design competition, dedicated to educating and empowering young designers around the world.

Ekta Chopra also paid attention to materials made from natural materials such as mushroom mycelium, orange peel, pineapple, etc. The speaker said that circular design strategies are key to reducing environmental impact and designers can do this through their projects, so she called on young designers to find creative solutions using fashion waste, starting with identifying the source of the textiles. Textile waste includes textile samples, inter-departmental waste, roll remnants, fabric samples, damaged textiles, used textiles, even unsold clothing, clothing samples. Used clothing can also be considered waste, but it must be justified that it will not be easy to sell or reuse in its current state.

The webinar aroused lively interest among applicants and teachers of the Faculty of Design and encouraged a professional discussion on current topics in the field of fashion design. We express our sincere gratitude to Ms. Ekta Chopra and the company “Redress” on behalf of all participants of the webinar for the opportunity to familiarize themselves with expert information on the challenges of circular fashion design.
