PARTICIPATION OF POLITICAL SCIENCE STUDENTS IN THE CULTURAL AND EDUCATIONAL EVENT “THE SHCHERBAKIVSKY FAMILY: GUARDIANS OF NATIONAL HERITAGE”

On April 27, 2026, students of the educational program “Political Science and Public Communications,” majoring in Political Science, took part in the online lecture “The Shcherbakivsky Family: Guardians of National Heritage”, organized by the Institute of Higher Education of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine as part of the implementation of the Concept of Civic Education in Ukraine for 2024–2030.

The event brought together participants from different regions of Ukraine. The lecture was delivered by Anzhela Savchenko – an independent researcher of local history, a guide across Ukraine, a cultural heritage manager at the public organization Center for Support of Civic Activity “Kryla”, and a methodologist at the Oral History Department of the National Museum of the Holodomor-Genocide.

Political science students learned about the spiritual and educational mission of Mykhailo Shcherbakivskyi, as well as his friendship with Tadei Rylskyi, Volodymyr Antonovych, and Yosyp Yurkevych. Special emphasis was placed on the figure of Vadym Shcherbakivskyi, whose 150th anniversary is commemorated in 2026 – a founder of the Poltava Regional History Museum, a researcher, photographer, and emigrant whose work continued even beyond his homeland. The story of Danylo Shcherbakivskyi, the last student of Volodymyr Antonovych, served as a reminder of the price Ukrainian intellectuals paid to preserve national identity.

The participation of political science students in such events goes far beyond formal education. Familiarity with real figures who, through their work, shaped Ukraine’s cultural and scientific space fosters critical thinking, national awareness, and civic responsibility among young people.

The online format of the event clearly demonstrates that quality education today is not limited to classroom walls. The Department of Private and Public Law of the Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design consistently integrates such initiatives into the educational process, being convinced that education which shapes the individual is the foundation of a resilient civil society.

We sincerely thank the Institute of Higher Education of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine and personally Anzhela Savchenko for an engaging presentation of the guardians of national heritage – the Shcherbakivsky family.
