THE ART OF HIGH ACHIEVEMENT: A MEETING WITH SHEVCHENKO NATIONAL PRIZE LAUREATES

On May 21, the assembly hall of the Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design hosted a profound dialogue that brought together the academic community of the Department of Performing Arts and Culture with the visionaries shaping the future of Ukrainian opera and national identity. This landmark event was dedicated to a significant milestone – the 65th anniversary of the establishment of the Taras Shevchenko National Prize, the highest creative distinction in Ukraine. The spotlight was held by figures whose names have long been synonymous with mastery: Anatolii Solovianenko, Artistic Director of the National Opera of Ukraine, People's Artist, and Academician, alongside the incomparable Angelina Shvachka, People’s Artist and renowned soloist of the country’s premier stage.

What began as a formal event quickly evolved into a sincere and emotional exchange of experience, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of an authentic creative workshop. The guests did not merely recount historical facts about the prize but revealed the inner workings of the nomination and selection process, drawing from Angelina Shvachka's first-hand experience as a member of the Shevchenko National Prize Committee. Students were granted the unique opportunity to hear directly about the criteria used by the committee, the challenges of selecting the best among the elite, and the immense weight this "golden badge" carries in an artist's career. It was a deep historical excursion interwoven with practical advice on self-realization within the contemporary arts landscape.

Anatolii Solovianenko focused specifically on the role of an artistic director in shaping the national cultural code and the strategic evolution of opera in Ukraine. His professional journey toward academic heights and scholarly degrees served as a tangible testament for the students that fundamental success in the arts is built upon a symbiosis of natural talent, rigorous discipline, and constant self-improvement. In turn, Angelina Shvachka emphasized the vital importance of continuous vocal practice and professional devotion, highlighting that the status of a national prize laureate is the fruit of daily, meticulous labor and an unquenchable creative quest.

This day at the department left behind more than just commemorative photographs; it instilled a clear understanding that the Shevchenko National Prize is not merely a legacy of the past, but a living mechanism that drives cultural development today. Listening to the professional guidance and personal stories of the guests, everyone in the hall felt a sense of belonging to the great family of Ukrainian artists. Such meetings dissolve the boundaries between seasoned masters and students, transforming the educational process into a continuous stream of inspiration that encourages our youth to dream bolder and work for the bright future of the Ukrainian stage.
