On May 26, 2026, students of the D5 “Marketing” specialty listened to a lecture on the topic “Coffee Shop as a Business: Strategies, Tools, Mistakes”, which was given by Mykhailo Babich, a member of the international coffee association Specialty Coffee Association (SCA), head of the quality department and head of the business training direction of the coffee company “UNITED KYIV ROASTERS”.
UNITED KYIV ROASTERS is a Ukrainian company specializing in coffee roasting, supplying products for coffee shops, renting equipment and training baristas. The company comprehensively supports the coffee business and helps establishments develop a high-quality coffee culture.

During the meeting, the participants had the opportunity to get acquainted in detail with the key aspects of opening and further development of a coffee shop. Attention was paid to the formation of an effective business strategy, which is the basis for the successful launch of the establishment and its stable operation in competitive conditions.
The participants learned how to correctly determine the target audience, choose the format of the coffee shop, form a unique concept and think over the positioning of the brand. The issues of choosing a location, creating a menu, organizing purchases, selecting equipment and establishing high-quality service were also considered. The participants received practical advice on how to organize the daily activities of the coffee shop so that it is convenient for both the team and visitors.
In addition, typical mistakes that entrepreneurs in the coffee industry often make were discussed. Among them, insufficient market research, incorrect budget calculation, weak marketing strategy, inattention to product and service quality, as well as the lack of a systematic approach to business management.
A separate part of the event was the tasting of the new Specialty coffee of craft roasting UNITED KYIV ROASTERS. Students had the opportunity to get acquainted with different taste profiles of coffee, evaluate its aroma, acidity, body and aftertaste, as well as better understand the principles of professional tasting.
The lecture was useful for future marketers, as it provided an opportunity to consider a coffee shop not only as a catering establishment, but also as a full-fledged business project that requires competent positioning, understanding of the consumer, effective strategy and quality product.

We sincerely thank the speaker of the event, Mykhailo Babich, for a meaningful, practically oriented and extremely useful lecture.
We express our gratitude to the company "UNITED KYIV ROASTERS" for their cooperation, support of educational initiatives, and significant contribution to the professional development of student youth.
