SCIENCE WEEK AT THE DEPARTMENT OF INDUSTRIAL PHARMACY OF KNUTD: A SERIES OF LECTURES BY INTERNATIONAL SCIENTISTS

As part of the celebration of Science Day in Ukraine, the Department of Industrial Pharmacy of the Kyiv National University of Technology and Design (KNUTD) organized a series of three open lectures by foreign researchers. The events were held in a mixed format (online and offline) and aroused considerable interest among the scientific community and students of the Faculty of Chemical and Biopharmaceutical Technologies of KNUTD. Students and teachers from Lviv Polytechnic National University, Odessa National University named after I.I. Mechnikov, Zhytomyr Medical Institute, Kyiv Professional Medical College named after P.I. Gavros, Zhytomyr Basic Pharmaceutical Professional College, and Kyiv City Medical Professional College also joined the events remotely via the Zoom platform.

The first lecture took place on May 12, 2026. It was delivered by Maryna HALAWKA, Candidate of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Junior Research Fellow of the Independent Unit of Translational Biomedical Research of the Medical University of Lublin (Poland). The topic of the lecture was “Expanding the possibilities of translational research in pharmacy using Danio rerio”. During the lecture, the speaker highlighted the advantages of using the Danio rerio model in modern pharmacology, reviewed current approaches to screening new biologically active substances, and outlined the prospects for translational research in the context of effectively transferring the results of preclinical trials into clinical practice.

The second public lecture on May 15, 2026 was given by Khrystyna MASLOVSKA-YAŻYNA, PhD, Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Biological and Chemical Research, Faculty of Chemistry, University of Warsaw (Poland). Her scientific activity has been recognized with many awards and scholarships.

Ms. Khrystyna gave a lecture on the topic “How Synthetic Molecules Transport Ions Across Cell Membranes”. The lecturer spoke about the mechanisms of action of synthetic anion transporters and described in detail the methodological approaches to their study using liposomal models and fluorescent indicators. Special attention was paid to the complexity of the transport of amino acids in the form of zwitterions, as well as receptor systems aimed at interacting with specific cell organelles. In addition, the speaker presented the results of studies of the antibacterial activity of new compounds, which are five times more effective than vancomycin. The lecture aroused lively interest from the audience, and the participants of the event asked many meaningful questions.

The series of festive events for Science Day ended with an open lecture by Doctor of Biological Sciences, molecular geneticist Andriy DOMANSKYI. The scientist has been working in Finland for over 20 years. He specializes in hormonal mechanisms, animal models and neurodegenerative diseases. After many years of work in academic institutions, he moved to the company "Orion Pharma", where he is engaged in the development of drugs for the treatment of chronic pain.

The topic of the lecture was "Experimental models for the study of pain and the development of new analgesic drugs". The open lecture aroused the interest of the audience and became the basis for a professional discussion on the scientific and ethical aspects of the use of animal models in pharmacological research.

The staff of the Department of Industrial Pharmacy expresses sincere gratitude to all speakers for their thorough and meaningful reports, openness to scientific dialogue, and willingness to share their own experience with the Ukrainian academic community. We are convinced that the knowledge gained and new scientific ideas will be reflected in the educational and scientific process and will contribute to the training of highly qualified specialists at the Department of Industrial Pharmacy of the KNUTD. We thank all interested and caring people who supported and made these three events a real Science Festival!
