CAREER GUIDANCE AT THE FACULTY OF CHEMICAL AND BIOPHARMACEUTICAL TECHNOLOGIES

During the second semester of the current academic year, the Faculty of Chemical and Biopharmaceutical Technologies ran a large-scale careers guidance campaign, reaching over 1,000 secondary school pupils. The Faculty's academic staff — both independently and as part of university-wide initiatives — organised a series of outreach visits to secondary schools in Kyiv, Boryspil, Vyshhorod, Irpin, Fastiv, Hatne and Velyka Dymerka. During the events, particular emphasis was placed on the innovative nature, market demand and career prospects of modern chemical and biopharmaceutical specialisms.

In particular, the career guidance programme covered the following educational institutions in Kyiv: Lyceum No 34 named after V. Maksymenko, Lyceum No 104 named after O. Olzhych, Lyceum No 142, Lyceum No 194 Perspektyva, Lyceum No 161, Vasyl Symonenko Specialised School No 252, Lyceum No 309, Lyceum No 38, Scientific Lyceum No 208, Specialised School No 159 with an in-depth study of English, and the KNUTD College of Arts and Design; the Hatne Lyceum, the Velykodymerskyi Lyceum, the Zafira Aliyeva Irpin Humanities Lyceum Linguist, Fastiv Lyceum No 4, Vyshhorod Lyceum No 1, the Kostyantyn Mohylko Boryspil Lyceum and the Perspektyva Boryspil Lyceum.

During the visits, the focus was on the relevance of the chemical, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology sectors, particularly the importance of implementing environmentally friendly solutions and modernising production. Secondary school pupils were introduced to career opportunities, internships with leading companies, and research activities. These events helped to boost pupils' motivation to choose in-demand professions with high potential for career progression.

The staff of the Department of Industrial Pharmacy, in partnership with specialists from Farmak JSC, organised two events: for students of the 'Shchaslyvsky Academic Lyceum' of the Prystolychna Village Council, Boryspil District, Kyiv Region, and for students of the P. I. Gavros Kyiv Vocational Medical College. The programme for each event combined theoretical and practical components. In the first part, at the Department of Industrial Pharmacy, participants were introduced to the educational programmes, visited the laboratories and took part in masterclasses on the manufacture of solid dosage forms. In the second part of the programme, they went on guided tours of Farmak JSC's production facilities, gaining an inside view of one of the country's most modern pharmaceutical manufacturing operations.

As is traditional and an integral part of the Faculty's careers guidance work, themed open lessons and masterclasses were held on campus. Thanks to the departments' thorough preparation, these events have become a major platform for dialogue between the university and prospective students. Face-to-face interaction, demonstrations of modern laboratory equipment and practical activities sparked considerable interest among secondary school pupils. The Faculty will continue this practice, as it is precisely such meetings that help young people take a conscious and confident step towards a successful career.

The career guidance activities carried out by the Faculty have confirmed that direct dialogue between universities, schools and industry is essential for attracting motivated young people. Introducing secondary school pupils to modern laboratory equipment, innovative technologies and career opportunities has significantly increased their interest in chemical and biopharmaceutical fields. The enthusiasm demonstrated by pupils confirms the growing relevance of chemical, pharmaceutical and biotechnology degree programmes. It provides a solid foundation for a successful admissions campaign and the training of a new generation of highly qualified specialists.

Let us shape the future of Ukrainian science together! The Faculty welcomes long-term and mutually beneficial cooperation.
