On August 25, 2026, Mariia POPOVA successfully defended her dissertation entitled “Development of a Pharmaceutical Composition with Antibacterial and Wound-Healing Activity in the Form of a Topical Foam” (Academic Supervisor: Vladyslav STRASHNYI, Doctor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Industrial Pharmacy at KNUTD).

The dissertation is devoted to the development of the composition, manufacturing technology, and quality control methods for a combined topical foam based on doxycycline hyclate and dexpanthenol for the local treatment of infected skin wounds.
As part of the study, a comprehensive pharmaceutical development of the combined medicinal product “DOXYPANT” in the form of a topical foam based on doxycycline hyclate and dexpanthenol was carried out for the local treatment of infected skin wounds.
Based on an analysis of current approaches to wound treatment and through the application of Quality by Design principles, the concept for the development of the medicinal product was substantiated, the Quality Target Product Profile and critical quality attributes were established. The manufacturing technology was developed, analytical methods for quality control were developed and validated, and stability studies of the medicinal product were conducted. The antibacterial activity of the developed “DOXYPANT” composition was investigated, and the release kinetics of doxycycline hyclate and dexpanthenol were determined using the in vitro release test method.
A study of the effects of doxycycline hyclate, dexpanthenol, and their combination on skin mesenchymal multipotent stem cells demonstrated that the addition of dexpanthenol reduces the adverse effect of doxycycline: the number of cells was 54.4% for doxycycline as a single component and 67.1% when combined with dexpanthenol, confirming that dexpanthenol mitigates the adverse effect of doxycycline hyclate on the cell culture.
The obtained results provide a scientific and technological foundation for the further standardization, scale-up, state registration, and implementation of the “DOXYPANT” topical foam into production.
