CONGRATULATIONS TO ANNA VARDANIAN ON SUCCESSFULLY DEFENDING HER DISSERTATION TO EARN A DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY DEGREE IN SPECIALTY 182 LIGHT INDUSTRY TECHNOLOGIES

On August 25, 2026, at Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design (KNUTD), during a meeting of the one-time specialized academic council PhD15426, a public defense of the dissertation by Anna Vardanian was held for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in specialty 182 “Light Industry Technologies,” field of knowledge 18 “Production and Technologies.”

The topic of the doctoral thesis is “Development of a Technology for Finishing Textile Materials with Antibacterial and Fungicidal Properties.” The dissertation advisor is Yana Redko, Doctor in Technical Sciences, Professor in the Department of Fashion Technology at Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design.

The one-time specialized academic council consisted of: Chair – Olha Andreeva, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Professor in the Department of Biotechnology, Leather, and Fur at Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design; reviewers –Arsenii Arabuli, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor, Associate Professor in the Department of Fashion and Style at Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design and Lyudmila Melnyk, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor, Associate Professor in the Department of Art and Costume Design at Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design; opponents – Polina Vakulyuk, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Chair of the Department of Chemistry at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and Lyudmyla Nazarchuk, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor, Chair of the Department of Creative Technologies and the Fashion Industry at Lutsk National Technical University.

The doctoral thesis by A.O.Vardanian is devoted to a pressing scientific and applied problem—the development of a technology for the functional finishing of textile materials that allows for the formation of specified color, antibacterial, and fungicidal properties simultaneously. A distinctive feature of the proposed approach is the use of a phenyl-phenolic intensifier in the dyeing process of cotton-polyester textiles. This makes it possible to combine the processes of dyeing and imparting biocidal properties to the materials within a single technological cycle.

As a result of the conducted research: the possibility of combined dyeing and functional finishing of textile materials was scientifically substantiated; the effect of the intensifier concentration on color characteristics and colorfastness was established; the optimal process parameters were determined; the hygienic, physical-mechanical, and operational characteristics of the resulting materials were investigated; the role of non-ionic surfactants in the formation of a nanodispersed dye system was established; the antibacterial and fungicidal efficacy of the materials against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Candida albicans, and Aspergillus brasiliensis was experimentally confirmed; the preservation of the biocidal effect of the materials after repeated washing was confirmed. Therefore, the results of this study are aimed at creating functional textile materials with a set of specified properties that can be used to manufacture products for specialized and functional purposes.

The members of the one-time specialized academic council noted that Anna Vardanian’s dissertation, in terms of its relevance, degree of scientific novelty, theoretical and practical significance, the soundness and reliability of the results obtained, meets the requirements of the Procedure for Awarding the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy and for Revoking the Decision of an One-Time Specialized Academic Council of a Higher Education Institution or Research Institution on Awarding the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy, approved by Resolution No. 44 of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated January 12, 2022, and the Requirements for the Formatting of Dissertations, approved by Order No. 40 of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine dated January 12, 2017.

The discussion and academic debate regarding the presented research culminated in an open vote by the members of the one-time specialized academic council. Based on the results of the vote, the one-time specialized academic council unanimously decided to award Anna Vardanian the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the field of knowledge 18 “Manufacturing and Technologies,” in the specialty 182 “Light Industry Technologies.”
