DAY OF DEFENDERS OF UKRAINE: REMEMBERING, HONOURING AND THANKING

On October 1st, 2026, Oksana Khalabuzar, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Philology and Translation, conducted an educational hour for students from the group BAM-26 (Educational programme “English Language: Translation in Business Communication)

The event was dedicated to the Day of Defenders of Ukraine, an important date that brings together Ukraine’s contemporary struggle for independence, historical memory, and the traditions of the Ukrainian people. During the educational hour, the students discussed the significance of this day and honoured service members, veterans, volunteers, and everyone contributing to the defence of Ukraine’s independence and territorial integrity.

During the meeting, participants expressed their gratitude and respect for the defenders of Ukraine, pride in their courage, and sorrow for those who gave their lives for Ukraine. The Day of Defenders of Ukraine is not merely a commemorative date but, above all, an opportunity to honour people who demonstrate responsibility, courage, and dedication to their country. It was also noted that the Day of Defenders of Ukraine honours everyone who has defended and continues to defend our country, regardless of gender, rank, position, or length of service.

An important part of the meeting was devoted to reflecting on the concepts of historical memory and national resilience. The participants discussed the strength of the Ukrainian people, reflected in their ability to preserve their identity, remember the past, and continue the struggle for freedom.

At the end of the educational hour, the students were provided with links to English-language films and documentary films about Ukraine, Ukrainian defenders, and the war. These films offer an opportunity to explore the topic in greater depth while developing students’ English-language listening and comprehension skills (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNjokNdyCIU).
