The Department of Chemical Technologies and Resource Saving Participates in the 24th Baltic Polymer Symposium (BPS-2026)

In early October, Viktoriia Plavan, Head of the Department of Chemical Technologies and Resource Saving, represented Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design (KNUTD) at the 24th Baltic Polymer Symposium (BPS-2026), which was held this year at Riga Technical University, Latvia.

From 30 September to 2 October, more than 90 participants from the Baltic countries, Ukraine, Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, Taiwan, and Indonesia discussed current developments in polymer science and technology, covering all aspects from polymer synthesis to practical applications.

Viktoriia Plavan presented a paper entitled “Effect of aqueous polymer binders on graphite anodes containing laser-pyrolysis-derived Si@C nanoparticles”, based on research conducted within the international GR4FITE3 project, implemented under the Horizon Europe programme. The project aims to ensure a sustainable supply of graphite for lithium-ion battery anodes and to develop a sustainable European supply chain. Professor Volodymyr Khomenko is the project supervisor at Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design (KNUTD).

The poster session also featured research demonstrating the current scientific priorities of the Department of Chemical Technologies and Resource Conservation and the research potential of KNUTD. In particular, the participants were presented with the paper “Film formation of waterborne hybrid acrylic–urethane coatings for technical textile materials” (authors: V. Plavan, V. Valeika, A. Kolodii, and A. Boichenko), which focuses on the formation of waterborne hybrid acrylic–urethane coatings for technical textile materials.

Another paper, “Dielectric characterization of 3D-printed gyroid polystyrene structures” (authors: O. Sliptsov, V. Khomenko, B. Savchenko, and V. Plavan), explored the dielectric properties of polymer structures with a gyroid architecture manufactured using 3D printing.

Among the participants and speakers at the Baltic Polymer Symposium with whom there was an opportunity to exchange views were Dr. Virgilius Valeika (Kaunas University of Technology, Lithuania), Editor-in-Chief of the scientific journal Technologies and Engineering, and Dr. Yevgen Karpichev (Tallinn University of Technology, Estonia), a member of the journal’s Editorial Board.

Participation in international scientific events provides not only an opportunity to exchange knowledge and experience with colleagues from different countries but also an important platform for discussing prospects for international cooperation, developing joint research projects, and promoting academic mobility for academic staff and students. BPS-2026 provided a valuable opportunity to strengthen existing partnerships, establish new professional contacts, and identify prospects for future international collaboration.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Organising Committee of the Baltic Polymer Symposium and Riga Technical University for the excellent organisation of the event, their warm hospitality, and the favourable environment they created for scientific exchange, sharing expertise, and establishing international partnerships.
