LECTURE BY AN ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF GRAPHIC DESIGN FOR PARTICIPANTS OF UKRAINIAN DESIGN AND INNOVATION WEEK (UDIW)
The Faculty of Design at the Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design (KNUTD) participated in Ukrainian Design and Innovation Week (UDIW) for the sixth time. Lecturers and students of KNUTD are regular participants in the events of Design Week: they deliver open lectures, engage in discussions, attend specialized exhibitions, and showcase the faculty’s achievements, among other activities.
On October 8, 2026, Sviatoslav Podlevsky, Candidate of Historical Sciences, PhD, Associate Professor in the Department of Graphic Design, conducted an open lecture titled "Redesign: Key Principles, Objectives, and Rationale for Application". The lecture was attended by KNUTD lecturers and students, as well as other participants of Ukrainian Design and Innovation Week.

During the lecture, Sviatoslav Podlevsky examined the key principles for redesigning visual identities and graphic assets, outlining their primary stylistic and functional characteristics. Particular attention was paid to analyzing scenarios where a design update is strategically necessary, as well as the impact of modern digital tools and market trends on the transformation of existing brand solutions. Each aspect discussed was accompanied by illustrative examples and practical case studies, enabling the audience to better grasp the real-world application of these theoretical concepts.

The speaker dedicated a specific section of the presentation to analyzing concrete examples of unsuccessful redesigns, examining common mistakes brands make when radically altering their visual language, losing touch with their target audience, or disregarding recognizable brand elements.

The final part of the event was an engaging Q&A session, during which participants had the opportunity to ask the speaker questions regarding the practical nuances of carrying out a redesign, assessing its advisability, and preserving authenticity throughout the renewal process.

The lecture received positive feedback from the attendees, who highlighted its relevance, substance, and the high professional standard with which the material was presented.
