On March 26, 2026, the Department of Philology and Translation of the Faculty of Culture and Creative Industries held a regular meeting of the scientific club “Vocational Training and Foreign Language Communication” on the topic “Beyond translation: language as a tool for professional identity and international collaboration”.
The session was opened by the head of the club, Associate Professor Kseniia Kugai, who emphasized that language plays a key role not only in communication but also in shaping the professional identity of a modern specialist.
Participants discussed how proficiency in foreign languages contributes to the development of intercultural interaction and expands opportunities for international cooperation.
The concept of professional identity and the role of language competence in its formation were examined. Students shared their observations on the use of language in various professional contexts, particularly in academic and business environments. Special attention was paid to adapting speech according to cultural and professional norms. During the discussion, the importance of developing critical thinking and effective communication skills in an international environment was also emphasized.
The participants concluded that language is not only a means of communication but also a powerful tool for self-presentation and professional development.
As part of the meeting, student Valeriia Khomenko presented a report titled “English as a lingua franca in social media and intercultural communication.” The thesis of the report was published in the proceedings of the Хth International Scientific and Theoretical Conference “The Current State of Development of World Science: Characteristics and Features,” held in Portugal.
The meeting was held in an atmosphere of active discussion, exchange of experience, and exploration of new approaches to developing foreign language communicative competence.
