On April 3, 2026, a meeting of the student academic club “School of Young Linguists” took place at the Department of Philology and Translation. The meeting was devoted to the topic “Feminitives in Contemporary Ukrainian: A Trend or a Necessity?”.
The meeting was opened by the head of the club, Associate Professor Maryna Vyshnevska, who emphasized the relevance of the issue of feminitives in the contemporary linguistic landscape. It was noted that the increasing use of feminine forms in Ukrainian is driven not only by linguistic trends but also by broader sociocultural processes, including the rethinking of women’s roles in society and the pursuit of gender representation in language.
Students of groups BAM-23 and BAM-24 actively discussed the topic, focusing on the following aspects:
The participants provided examples of the use of feminitives in media, official and business communication, and everyday speech, and also analyzed cases of resistance to and ironic use of these forms. Particular attention was paid to the discussion of the limits of productivity of word-formation models and the criteria of language norms.
The discussion demonstrated that feminitives are not only a linguistic phenomenon but also an indicator of social change reflected in language practice. The meeting was held in an atmosphere of engaged and thoughtful discussion.
