On May 11, in celebration of Science Day and as part of “Science Week at KNUTD-2026,” the Scientific and Technical Library hosted a roundtable discussion organized by the “Sketching Club,” a scientific and creative group from the Department of Digital Art, Faculty of Culture and Creative Industries, led by Senior Lecturer Svitlana Pashukova. The event was dedicated to the topic: “Scientific Foundations of Sketching in the Work of a Digital Artist” and was attended by students from group БЦМ1-25.

The key theme of the roundtable was a reimagining of sketching as a powerful method of artistic research, a means of visual modeling, and a tool for designing artistic solutions. The speakers presented the results of their own creative and research work, focusing on the patterns of constructing an artistic image, the principles of form creation, methods of stylization, and the specifics of interpreting real anatomical structures in digital art.
During the discussion, particular attention was paid to the interconnection between academic knowledge of composition, artistic anatomy, and form creation, and contemporary digital practices in concept art. The following substantive presentations were delivered during the roundtable: “Forming an Artistic Image: The Aesthetics of Imperfection in Digital Sketching” – A.O. Vixenko, D.I. Nesterenko; “Creature Design in the Digital Environment: From Real Anatomy to Artistic Interpretation” – A.I. Kogteva; “The Method of Multi-Layer Material Generation in the Digital Design of Fantastic Creatures” – M.M. Bushueva; “The Architectonics of Form in the Design of Science-Fiction Creatures: Principles of Constructing Visually Convincing Images” – L.S. Polishchuk.

During a lively discussion, participants explored the importance of academic research in the professional practice of digital artists. It was noted that writing academic papers fosters the development of analytical and critical thinking, helps students systematize their own creative experience, justify artistic decisions, and explore the principles of visual expression. The event once again demonstrated the effectiveness of integrating a scientific approach into the creative process, which forms the foundation of contemporary art education at our university.
