TRANSLATOR AS A CULTURAL MEDIATOR: THE ROLE IN INTERCULTURAL DIALOGUE

On May 15, 2026, another meeting of the student scientific club “The Art of Translation” of the Department of Philology and Translation at Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design was held under the supervision of Nataliia Gudkova, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor.

The topic of the meeting was “Translator as a Cultural Mediator: The Role in Intercultural Dialogue.” The meeting was dedicated to the Day of Science in Ukraine, which in 2026 falls on May 16.

At the beginning of the event, the club supervisor Nataliia Gudkova delivered a presentation devoted to the Day of Science in Ukraine and its importance for the development of education, science, and the professional growth of young researchers. Special attention was paid to the role of student research, academic integrity, and students’ participation in scientific conferences and research projects.

The meeting was attended by students of group БАМ-23, who discussed the role of the translator in intercultural communication, the adaptation of culturally marked elements, and the formation of effective dialogue between representatives of different cultures.

The students also shared their experience of participating in and presenting reports at the XI International Scientific and Practical Conference “Dialogue of Cultures in the European Educational Space,” which took place at KNUTD on May 7, 2026. The participants discussed current research trends, the specifics of preparing scientific presentations, and the importance of international academic events for students’ professional development.


The meeting contributed to the development of students’ scientific activity, deepened their knowledge of intercultural communication, and enhanced their understanding of the translator’s role as a mediator in the modern globalized world.
