LANGUAGE AND POWER: HOW TRANSLATION SHAPES THE PERCEPTION OF TEXT AND REALITY

On April 3, 2026, another meeting of the student scientific club “The Art of Translation” of the Department of Philology and Translation at Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design was held under the supervision of Nataliia Gudkova, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor.

The topic of the meeting was “Language and Power: How Translation Shapes the Perception of Text and Reality.” The meeting was attended by philology students of groups БАМ-23, БАМ-24, and БАМ-25, who discussed the role of translation in shaping public opinion, conveying ideological meanings, and interpreting information in the modern media space.

During the meeting, the participants analyzed examples of political, publicistic, and media text translation, paying particular attention to how the translator’s choice of language influences message perception, emotional coloring, and the formation of specific narratives.

The participants also discussed the materials of the student presentation by Denys Bormachov, The Impact of Social Media on Modern Culture and Education, prepared for the XI International Scientific and Practical Conference “Dialogue of Cultures in the European Educational Space,” which will take place at KNUTD on May 7, 2026, followed by the publication of conference abstracts.

The meeting contributed to the development of students’ critical thinking, deepened their knowledge of translation theory, and enhanced their understanding of the role of language and translation in shaping the modern information space.
