OPEN MEETING OF THE SCIENTIFIC CLUB OF THE DEPARTMENT OF INFORMATION AND COMPUTER TECHNOLOGIES: A TRAINING SESSION ON THE CHALLENGES OF EMBEDDED SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT

The scientific club "Embedded Systems and Internet of Things Design" of the Department of Information and Computer Technologies kicked off the new academic year with an open meeting devoted to "The Challenges of Embedded System Development." The event was held in accordance with the club's planned schedule for the 2026–2027 academic year.

Given the current security situation, the meeting was held online. Yet this format was no obstacle to the main goal of the gathering – popularizing information technology and automation among students. On the contrary, the remote format made it possible to reach an even wider audience: first-year students joined the club's activities for the very first time, invited to get acquainted with its work right at the start of their studies.

The training session was led by the head of the scientific club, Candidate of Technical Sciences and Associate Professor of the ICT Department, Yurii Lebedenko. The discussion focused on the relevance of embedded systems in today's technological landscape – why this field is currently among the most in-demand both in the IT industry and in manufacturing. Participants explored which hardware platforms and software tools are most commonly used in embedded system development, and reviewed concrete examples of project implementation, ranging from simple microcontroller-based systems to more complex IoT solutions.

Special attention was given to the typical challenges developers face: memory and power consumption constraints, real-time reliability issues, and aspects of IoT cybersecurity. This practical angle on the subject allowed students to see not only the theoretical but also the applied side of the profession.

The highlight of the meeting was a discussion with elements of "brainstorming," during which participants jointly considered possible directions for the club's development and ways to improve its work. First-year students actively joined the discussion, offering their own perspectives on topics for future projects – a clear sign of the newcomers' genuine interest in the department's scientific activities.

It is worth noting that engaging new members – with their fresh ideas and perspectives – can give the club an additional boost in its development. New team members bring unconventional ideas that often become the starting point for interesting projects, whether for participation in All-Ukrainian student research competitions or for developing their own startup initiatives.

The club's upcoming meetings promise to be just as eventful: ahead lie a master class on microcontroller system programming, a seminar on Internet of Things technologies, work with programmable logic chips, and other thematic sessions that will gradually build students' competencies in demand on today's IT market.

The Department of ICT remains open to new members of the scientific club – joining the team offers the chance to gain practical skills in embedded system design, try one's hand at real research and startup projects, and take the first step toward a future engineering career.
