THE CRUISE INDUSTRY FROM THE INSIDE: A GUEST LECTURE FOR MEMBERS OF THE STUDENT SCIENTIFIC CLUB

On October 2, members of KNUTD’s Student Scientific Club «Cross-cultural management and business communication skills in the hospitality industry» joined a guest online lecture by Mariia Tunyk, Shorex Manager at Cunard Cruise Lines, entitled “Beyond the Shore: What It’s Really Like to Work on a Cruise Ship.”

During their interaction with the speaker, students learned about the specifics of working on cruise ships, the organisation of shore excursions, staff training, and onboard safety requirements.

The practical tools presented were particularly valuable: using a specific example, participants explored how to calculate the break-even point and profitability of tours, including determining the minimum number of bookings required to operate an excursion.

Club members also learned where to look for their first job on a cruise ship (through recruitment agencies such as ISMIRA and Volans, as well as the All Cruise Jobs platform), what documents to prepare, and the role of professional training.
