THE SCIENTIFIC CLUB MEETING – “PROFESSIONAL COMMUNICATION IN THE AGE OF SOCIAL MEDIA”
On 15 October 2026, the Department of Philology and Translation of the Faculty of Culture and Creative Industries at KNUTD held another meeting of the scientific club “Vocational Education and Foreign Language Communication”. The meeting focused on the topic “Professional Communication in the Age of Social Media”.
The meeting was led by the head of the scientific club, Associate Professor Kseniia Kugai.
During the meeting, students discussed the role of social media in modern professional communication, the specific features of communication across different digital platforms, and the impact of online presence on professional reputation. The discussion explored how language requirements are changing in the digital environment and why the ability to choose an appropriate communication style is important for future professional activities.

The participants examined the features of professional communication on LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and other social media platforms. In particular, they discussed:
- differences between personal and professional communication on social media;
- linguistic features of professional posts and comments;
- the use of English to establish international professional contacts;
- rules of digital etiquette and responsibility for published content;
- building a professional image in the online environment.

During the practical part of the meeting, students analysed examples of professional posts in English, compared formal and informal communication styles, and identified linguistic means that help make messages clear, appropriate, and persuasive. A separate task involved creating a short post in English for a professional social networking platform, taking into account its purpose and target audience.
During the discussion, participants noted that professional communication on social media requires not only a good command of a foreign language but also an understanding of the specific features of digital communication, the ability to critically evaluate information, and adherence to ethical standards.
The meeting concluded with an exchange of views on the opportunities social media offer for professional development, job searching, establishing international contacts, and presenting professional achievements.
