WEEK OF LANGUAGES, TRANSLATION AND INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION: “THE ART OF TRANSLATION” TALKS THE LANGUAGE OF THE PROFESSION
On 2 October 2026, the Department of Philology and Translation at KNUTD hosted another meeting of the “Art of Translation” Student Research Club, supervised by Nataliia Gudkova, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor. The meeting was held in a round-table format and formed part of the Week of Languages, Translation and Intercultural Communication, organised by the Department of Philology and Translation from 28 September to 2 October 2026.
The topic of the meeting was “Terminology in Translation: Strategies for Working with Specialised Vocabulary”. The participants discussed the specific features of translating terminology in different professional fields, issues of accuracy and consistency in specialised vocabulary, as well as strategies for searching for and verifying equivalents in specialised dictionaries, terminology databases, corpora and other digital resources.
As part of the round-table discussion, students delivered thematic presentations in which they shared their observations and examples of working with professional terminology. The presentations provided a basis for an active discussion of translation strategies, the use of established equivalents, borrowings and descriptive translation, as well as the translator’s responsibility for the accurate transfer of specialised information.

The discussion gave the participants an opportunity not only to present the results of their work, but also to exchange views, justify their translation choices and jointly analyse challenging cases. The meeting contributed to the students’ deeper understanding of translation theory and practice, the development of skills in working with specialised vocabulary, critical thinking and professional discussion.
