The exhibition of replicas of the historical Ukrainian costume “COSTUME LIBRARY: UKRAINIAN BAROQUE” was opened in the gallery of the National Sanctuary “Sophia of Kyiv”, which featured models from the “COSTUME LIBRARY” collection of the Department of Art and Fashion Design of KNUTD.

The exhibition is a continuation of the artistic, educational, and scientific cooperation between KNUTD and “Sophia of Kyiv”, which started quite a long time ago but was documented in 2020 by signing a cooperation agreement. Within the framework of cooperation, exhibitions, plein-airs, and educational practices of students of the Faculty of Design of KNUTD took place.

The proposal of the Department of Art and Fashion Design, KNUTD, regarding the organization of an exhibition dedicated to the popularization of historical Ukrainian clothing was received by the management of “Sophia of Kyiv” extremely warmly and with an understanding of how important it is today, in the conditions of full-scale aggression against our country, to support compatriots and show outstanding achievements of the Ukrainian culture.

The “COSTUME LIBRARY” of the Department of Art and Fashion Design has about 500 reconstructions of historical and national costumes. The exhibition “COSTUME LIBRARY: UKRAINIAN BAROQUE” presents replicas of historical Ukrainian women’s and men’s costumes from the Baroque period (XVII – XVIII centuries). The clothes were made on the basis of reliable scientifically substantiated historical sources by students of the educational program “Fashion Design” and teachers of the Department of Art and Fashion Design – PhD, Assoc. Prof. Halyna Kokorina, Assoc. Prof. Iryna Davydenko, Sen. Lecturer Inna Hayova, and others.

The exposition is interesting for its exhibition collaboration: it also presents costumes from the retrospective collection of the House of Models “Khreshchatyk” (Kyiv) (years of activity: 1961 – 2003), made in an ethnic style. The Department of Art and Fashion Design KNUTD (formerly – Art Modelling of a Costume) was founded in 1992, and the employees of the Kyiv House of Models “Khreshchatyk”, fashion designers and clothing designers became the first teachers of the Department.
