The Department of Philology and Translation was established in 1930 as the Department of Foreign Languages having at that time only 4 teachers.
From 1976 to 1987, the department served as a key department within Kyiv University Centre. The staff actively participated in the Scientific and Methodological Council for Foreign Languages experimental research section at the Ministry of Education and Science of the USSR and the all-Union scientific experiment to study the effectiveness of the personal and activity approach to teaching foreign languages.
The Department of Philology and Translation is part of the faculty of culture and creative industries. Since 2021, the department has been a graduating department and has been training bachelors in the educational programme “English: Translation in Business Communication” (speciality B11 Philology (by specialization).
The intensification of Ukraine's foreign policy, the integration processes it is involved in, and the participation of the Ukrainian higher education system in the Bologna Process require higher education institutions to bring their academic requirements closer to international standards. The University is taking significant steps towards standardising the teaching of professional disciplines to ensure effective interaction with representatives of the global community at various levels. A modern specialist today must be able to communicate in several foreign languages and know them to the point where content dominates over form. A person thinks about what to say to the interlocutor but not how. That is why the process of teaching foreign languages at the Department of Philology and Translation is organised according to a level model (A, B, C) and is aimed at developing applicants' professionally oriented foreign language communicative competence and the ability to communicate in foreign languages in the professional sphere. The principles of language teaching are based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages in force in EU countries and implemented in the system of foreign language education in Ukraine.
As of September 2026, the department employs 23 scientific and pedagogical workers, including 6 Doctors of Sciences, 9 Candidates of Sciences, 5 Professors, 12 Associate Professors, 6 Senior Lecturers who teach disciplines of the speciality B11 Philology (by specialization) and carry out the educational process in English, German, French, Ukrainian (as well as Ukrainian as a foreign language) at all faculties of KNUTD. All the teachers of the department have mastered several foreign languages.
The teaching and support staff of the department (1 person) performs work related to the organisation, preparation, and implementation of the educational process.

Ya. Boiko has been working at KNUTD since 2024. In 2007, she graduated with honours from Dnipro National University, majoring in English Language and Literature, with a Master of Philology, Teacher of English Language and Literature qualification. In 2013, she defended her PhD thesis on “Aesthetic Appreciation in a Poetic Text: Linguistic and Cognitive Analysis (Based on the Poetry of English Romanticism)” at the Specialised Academic Council of Donetsk National University, speciality 10.02.04 - Germanic Languages. In 2023, she defended her doctoral dissertation on “Cognitive and Discursive Model of Diachronic Multiple Translations of a Temporally Distant Original Work (Based on the Material of Ukrainian Retranslations of Shakespeare's Tragedies of the XIX-XXI Centuries)” at the Specialised Academic Council of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, speciality 10.02.16 - Translation Studies. She is the author of more than 70 scientific and educational publications, including 10 articles in scientometric journals indexed in Web of Science and Scopus, 2 chapters in foreign monographs, and 3 in international journals of Turkey, the Czech Republic, and the United Kingdom. Participant of national and international conferences. She has completed internships abroad at Silesian University of Technology, Gliwice (Poland), National Conference of Academic Career Offices, held at the Silesian University of Technology – 2023. Fields of research: translation studies, linguistic and cultural studies, cognitive discourse studies, cognitive semantics of literary text, conceptology of literary discourse, text stylistics, stylistic lexicology, lexical and phraseological semantics, cognitive semantics of literary text.

I.Dzyra has been working at KNUTD since 1990 and at the Department of Philology and Translation since 2023. In 1990, he graduated with honours from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. In 1995, he received a PhD in Philology, and in 2007, a Doctor of History. He was awarded the academic title of Professor of the Department of Pedagogy and Methods of Professional Education in 2012. He has published more than 150 scientific and methodological works, including a monograph and a textbook with the stamp of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (co-authored). He has prepared two PhDs From 2021 to 2022, he wasan examiner at the National Commission for State Language Standards. Fields of research: historical prose by P. Kulish, works by P. Biletskyi-Nosenko, Cossack chronicles of the eighteenth century, historiography of Ukrainian chronicles, and historical onomastics.

She has been working at KNUTD since 2023. In 2000, she graduated with honours from Zaporizhzhia State University. In 2004, she defended her PhD thesis. She received a doctorate in philology after completing her doctoral studies at Dnipro National University. From 2011 to 2016, she was an associate professor at the Department of Journalism at Zaporizhzhia National Technical University. 2016-2017 – Professor of the Department of Slavic Philology at Zaporizhzhia National University. From 2017 to 2023, she was a Professor at the Department of World Literature and Literary Theory, Faculty of Foreign Philology, National Pedagogical Dragomanov University. From 2018 to 2022, she was a Dissertation Council D 08.051.12 member of the Oles Honchar Dnipro National University. From 2018 to 2020, she was a competition jury member to defend students' research papers (Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine). She has completed international research internships: “Challenges of multilingual education in Ukraine”, University of Tartu, Estonia (2017), “Innovative educational institution of the 21st century – European experience within the framework of the European Commission's LLP model”, Uczelnia Nauk Społecznych, Poland (2017), “Integration of universities into the global educational space: development of international cooperation”, Shaanxi University of Science and Technology, People's Republic of China (2022). She took part in the International School of Pedagogical Excellence training as part of the Create Creative Entrepreneurs project of the Create Creative Entrepreneurs Leaders School programme of the British Council Ukraine (2022). His scientific achievements include more than 100 scientific, educational and methodological works published in professional journals in Ukraine and abroad, including 2 monographs, 1 collective monograph, 2 articles in scientometric journals indexed in Scopus. Fields of research: postcolonial methodology of literary studies, travel discourse, American and Ukrainian literature of the twentieth century, intermedial relations of literature.

S. Fedorenko has been working at KNUTD since 2024. In 1998, she graduated with honours from Kyiv State Linguistic University with a degree in Language (English) and Foreign Literature. In 2017, she defended her doctoral dissertation on “Theory and Methods of Forming Humanitarian Culture of Students of US Higher Education Institutions”. She received a Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences degree. In 2019, she was awarded the academic title of Professor of the Department of English Theory, Practice and Translation at the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”. The author of more than 200 scientific and educational works. She has participated in national and international conferences. She has prepared one candidate of science and four doctors of philosophy. In the academic year 2023-2024, she was a guest lecturer at the Department of English and German Philology at the University of Granada (Spain). She has done internships abroad: 2016 – USA, Austria, Slovak Republic; 2017 – Poland; 2018 – Turkey, Denmark, Poland; 2021 – Spain, Turkey; 2022 – Poland; 2023 – Spain. Fields of research: pedagogical comparative studies and international education, methods of teaching foreign languages and translation, industry translation, linguistics of professional languages.

S. Tsymbal has been working at KNUTD since 2026. In 2000, she graduated from M.P. Drahomanov National Pedagogical University, Faculty of Philology. In 2020, she defended her doctoral dissertation and received a Doctor of Psychological Sciences degree. She is the author of more than 130 scientific articles, educational and methodological works. In 2025, she has successfully completed the foreign internship program “Modern EdTech in the Educational Process of Higher Education Institutions” (Przeworsk, Poland). Fields of research: intercultural communication, foreign language training of higher education students.    |

N. Gudkova has been working at KNUTD since 2007. She graduated from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in 1989, V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University in 2003, and in 2012 defended her dissertation on “The Formation of the Concept of “Exclusivity” in the Printed Advertising Text of the XIX-XXI Centuries” and received a PhD in Philology. In 2017, she was promoted to Associate Professor of the Department of Foreign Languages. The author of more than 100 scientific papers and educational and methodological works. She has participated in national and international conferences. She has repeatedly completed internships at UK higher education institutions. Member of the Scientific and Organising Committee of the International Conference ‘Dialogue of Cultures in the European Education Area’, permanent member of the Ukrainian Association of Cognitive Linguistics and Poetics (UACLiP). Fields of research: cognitive linguistics, translation studies, terminology, business foreign language, methods of foreign language teaching.

I. Pshenychna has been working at KNUTD since 2019. In 2009, she graduated from Kryvyi Rih State Pedagogical University with a degree in English and foreign literature. In 2011, she graduated from the Odesa National Law Academy with a full university degree and a law degree. In 2014, she defended her PhD thesis in the speciality 13.00.09 - ‘Theory of Learning’. She is the author of more than 30 scientific papers. Fields of research: independent educational activity, pedagogy, theory and methodology of teaching, innovative methods of teaching English.

V. Doroshenko graduated from O. M. Gorky Kharkiv State University and completed his doctoral studies at the National Academy of Public Administration under the President of Ukraine. He is the author of more than 60 scientific articles, educational and methodological works, and monographs. He has participated in national and international conferences, including those on translation studies, the history of translation, and methods of teaching translation as a speciality. He has practical experience in simultaneous interpreting. He was one of the organisers and leaders of the Institute of International Relations of the National Aviation University. He contributed to forming and implementing the latest language training system for internationals and diplomats. He initiated the creation of the first EU Information Centre in Ukraine. He was elected Vice President of Ukraine's Association of Scientists for Innovative Development. He is the author and leader of the International English-language project ‘Music is the Language of the Soul’. Fields of research: innovative concepts in scientific and pedagogical activities.

O. Muntian has been working at KNUTD since 2023. In 2005, he graduated from Mykolaiv State University named after V.O. Sukhomlynskyi, with a Pedagogy and Methods of Secondary Education degree. Language and Literature. In 2008, he defended his dissertation and received the Candidate of Philological Sciences degree. In 2014, he was promoted to associate professor. In 2020, he graduated from Kherson State University with a degree in Philology (Ukrainian Language and Literature). He received a Master of Philology qualification in Philology (Ukrainian Language and Literature). He is the author of about 160 scientific and educational-methodical works, including 6 publications in scientometric journals indexed in Web of Science and Scopus. Participant of national and international conferences. He is a member of the editorial board of the journal “Terminological Herald” (Institute of the Ukrainian Language of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine) (category B). He completed a research internship at the University of Mohamed V (Morocco) (April 2018), and at the Tianjin Institute of Foreign Languages (People's Republic of China) (September - December 2019). O. Halabusar has been working at KNUTD since 2024. She graduated with honours from Berdiansk State Pedagogical Institute with a degree in Secondary Education (Language and Literature (English)) in 2001. In 2009, she defended her dissertation research “Formation of a Culture of Logical Thinking of Future Specialists.” She received the degree of Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences. In 2010, she was awarded the academic title of Associate Professor of the Department of Foreign Languages and Teaching Methods at Berdiansk State Pedagogical Institute. She has been working at KNUTD since 2024. She graduated with honours from Berdiansk State Pedagogical Institute with a degree in Secondary Education (Language and Literature (English)) in 2001. In 2009, she defended her dissertation research ‘Formation of Future Specialists’ Logical Thinking Culture, and received the degree of Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences. In 2010, she was awarded the academic title of Associate Professor of the Department of Foreign Languages and Teaching Methods at Berdiansk State Pedagogical Institute. She is the author of more than 100 scientific and educational publications, including 3 textbooks with the Ministry of Education and Science stamp, 4 educational textbooks, monographs published abroad, and 3 journal articles in scientometric databases. Participant in national and international conferences. Member of the Public organisation of educators ‘Progresylni’. She was awarded the ‘Excellence in Education’ badge of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. K. Shykhnenko has been working at KNUTD since 2025. In 1992, she graduated with honours from Kyiv Pedagogical Drahomanov Institute, Faculty of Philology, and in 1995 – from Grinchenko Kyiv Interregional Institute for Advanced Teacher Training, where she obtained the qualification of an English teacher. In 2015, she defended her Ph.D. thesis on “Development of the Theory of Educational Changes in U.S. Pedagogy” and received the degree of Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences. In 2020, she was awarded the academic title of Associate Professor of the Department of Language Training at the Institute of Public Administration and Research in Civil Protection. The author of more than 90 scientific and educational papers. She has completed internships abroad: 2018 – Germany (“Language testing seminars (STANAG 6001)”), Slovenia (“English teaching faculty development workshop”). Fields of research: pedagogical comparative studies (higher education in Ukraine and in the USA), research in higher education institutions, methods of teaching ESP.

I. Makhovych has been working at KNUTD since 2021. She graduated from Kamianets-Podіlskyi Ivan Ohiienko National University, where she received a Bachelor’s degree in Philology in 2016, a Specialist’s degree in Language and Literature (English) in 2017, and a Master’s degree in Language and Literature (English) in 2018. In 2026, she successfully defended her dissertation “Gamification as a Means of Individualising the Learning of Computer Science Students” and was awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). She is the author of more than 50 scholarly publications and regularly participates in national and international academic conferences. In her teaching practice, she actively integrates modern educational technologies, particularly gamification, to enhance learning effectiveness and support the individualisation of the educational process. Fields of research: pedagogy, information technologies in education, integrating gamification strategies into the educational process.

In 2002, she graduated from the National Technical University of Ukraine “Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” with a degree in Translation and qualified as an English language teacher. In 2026, she defended her thesis on ‘The Development of a Multicultural Personality among Students at Spanish Universities’ and was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree. Since 2026, she has held the position of Associate Professor in the Department of Philology and Translation. She teaches academic English. She is the author of over 100 academic and teaching-methodological works devoted to issues of multicultural education, intercultural communication and the internationalisation of higher education. She actively participates in national and international academic conferences. Between 2021 and 2024, she participated in international educational and academic projects aimed at developing the internationalisation of higher education and intercultural interaction. During this period, she taught at the University of Granada (Spain), contributing to the implementation of international academic cooperation and academic mobility programmes. Fields of research: multicultural education, multiculturalism and intercultural interaction in the educational environment, the development of intercultural competence among students, the internationalisation of higher education, and the development of international academic cooperation.

O. Buhaiova has been working at KNUTD since 2026. In 1995, she graduated with honors from Kherson Pedagogical Institute. In 2019, she defended her dissertation “Social Advertising: Vocabulary, Grammar, Stylistics” and earned the academic degree of Candidate of Philological Sciences. Author of more than 40 scholarly works. Participant in All-Ukrainian and international conferences. Member of the editorial board of the professional scholarly journal (category “B”) in the field of social communications “Library Science. Document Science. Informology”. At the Center for Advanced Training for Managers and Employees in the Field of Culture and Arts, she taught original courses: “Business Ukrainian Language”, “Speech Competence of Artists”, and “The New Ukrainian Orthography”. V. Nikolaienko has been working at KNUTD since 2026. She graduated from Kherson State Pedagogical Institute in 1997 with a major in English language and Foreign Literature, and received the qualification of Teacher of English Language and Foreign Literature. In 2005, she successfully defended her PhD dissertation “Developing Grammatical Competence of English-speaking Foreign Students at the Initial Stage of Study in Higher Education in the specialty 13.00.02 – “Theory and Teaching Methodology” and earned the degree of Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences (PhD in Pedagogical Sciences). In 2008, she had also been granted the academic title of Associate Professor in the Department of Foreign Languages at the National Pedagogical Dragomanov University. She has authored over 150 scientific, educational, and methodological publications. Her scholarly record includes 12 study guides approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, two Scopus-indexed journal articles, two chapters in foreign monographs, and four international articles published across Italy, Bulgaria, Canada, and Spain. Additionally, she actively contributes to national and international conferences and holds membership in the non-governmental organization Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages in Ukraine (TESOL-Ukraine). She is the author of more than 100 scientific papers and educational works, the “English-Ukrainian Terminological Dictionary of Design and Textiles” with the stamp of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, co-author of the textbooks “Practical Course of English” and “ESP: Design” with the stamp of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, participant of national and international conferences. She is a member of the NGO “Association of English Language Teachers “TESOL-Ukraine”, an international branch of TESOL, Inc. She is the author of more than 100 scientific papers and educational works, textbooks: Business communication, English for Specific Purposes: Marketing, English for Specific Purposes: Finance, co-author of the Legal English educational textbook and the English-Ukrainian Dictionary of Legal Terms. She graduated from the Kyiv State Linguistic University in 1998 and National Pedagogical Drahomanov University in 2018 (Master's degree in Higher Education Pedagogy, Andragogy). She is the author of 6 scientific articles, the textbook ‘Deutsch für Designer’, more than 20 educational-methodological publications, and co-author of 5 educational and methodical works. Fields of research: problems of professional text translation (technical, artistic, military), media didactics in foreign language learning, psychology, application of artificial intelligence and neural networks in foreign language learning.

S. Krasniuk has been working at KNUTD since 2017. She graduated from Kyiv Slavonic University in 2002 with a degree in Language and Literature (Czech and English), and from National Pedagogical Drahomanov University in 2018 with honours (Master's degree in Higher Education Pedagogy, Andragogy). She completed German language courses in 2002 at the International Centre of Culture and Education. She is the author of 20 scientific articles in Ukrainian scientific periodicals, 4 articles in foreign scientific indexed publications, co-author of 5 Ukrainian collective monographs and 5 international scientific monographs; participant of national and international conferences with 52 abstracts published; author of more than 10 educational and methodological works. She is a member of the NGO Association of English Language Teachers ‘TESOL-Ukraine’, an international branch of TESOL, Inc. Fields of research: modern methods of teaching a foreign language for professional purposes, use of the latest information technologies in teaching foreign languages, machine linguistics, education management.

S. Honcharenko has been working at KNUTD since 2021. She graduated from Izmail State Pedagogical Institute in 1986. She completed advanced training courses at the Educational and Research Institute of Law and Modern Technologies of KNUTD under the “Use of Digital Technologies in the Educational Process” programme in 2022. She is a co-author of business English textbooks for students majoring in Law. She started her career in 1986 and has many years of experience as a teacher in higher education institutions and as a business and legal English trainer in international companies. She has worked with various global companies, including Mondeleze, Jacobs Douwe Egberts, Unilever, ABB, and Octagon. She regularly participates in training and seminars on teaching English (Dinternal, Pearson, RELO). She is the author and co-author of articles in Ukrainian periodicals and indexed foreign journals, a monograph co-author, and a participant in international and all-Ukrainian conferences. Member of the public organization "Association of English Teachers "TISOL-Ukraine" (TESOL-Ukraine), the international branch of TESOL, Inc., and the International Association of Teachers of English IATEFL Ukraine. Fields of research: English teaching methodology, research into the method of teaching language through solving tasks (Task-Based Language Teaching), English in the professional activities of a civil servant.

N. Liubymova has been working at KNUTD since 2022. She graduated from Horlivka State Pedagogical Institute with honors in 2001, majoring in "Translation, Language and Literature". She has 10 years of teaching experience in higher education institutions in Ukraine. She has practical experience as a translator (English and French). Fields of research: translation in international communications, specifics of international relations.

V. Petrenko has been working at KNUTD since 2024. In 1999, she graduated from Vinnytsia State Pedagogical University named after Mykhailo Kotsiubynskyi with a degree in "English Language and Literature and German Language". A teacher of the highest category, has experience working with different age groups. Fields of research: formation of education applicants’ foreign language competencies using ICT.

S. Redko has been working at KNUTD since 1998. She graduated from Kyiv National Linguistic University with a degree in French and English Language Teaching. She has practical experience as a translator. Fields of research: innovative technologies in teaching foreign languages, pedagogy, translation studies.

The physical infrastructure of the Department of Philology and Translation is constantly developing and updating. The scientific and pedagogical staff of the department conduct the educational process in comfortable classrooms (Building 4 of KNUTD, 11th–13th floors), equipped with modern technical means for lectures and practical classes.

Academic staff of the Department of Philology and Translation carry out research in several areas, such as:

Since 2016 the staff of the Department of Philology and Translation has been organizing the International Conference “Dialogue of Cultures in the European Education Space”, which aims to create a professional platform for discussing the philological aspects of intercultural dialogue, disseminating experience in enhancing the quality of training of foreign students in Ukrainian higher education institutions and improving their adaptation in the language environment https://dk.knutd.edu.ua/.
The staff of the Department of Philology and Translation implements bilateral agreements on international cooperation between KNUTD and Baku Slavic University (Azerbaijan), Tskhumi-Abkhazian Academy of Sciences (Georgia), Sokhumi State University (Georgia), International Cultural and Educational Association (ICEA) (USA) in scientific, academic and cultural spheres (in particular, in the field of philological, translation and Ukrainian studies studios), which consists in the development of contacts between the academic staff of the mentioned universities and institutions, exchange between applicants for higher education and participants of various forms of postgraduate education through the organisation of multiple courses and programmes.
Teachers of the Department of Philology and Translation in the framework of the cooperation agreement between KNUTD and “The International Cultural and Educational Association” (ICEA) work on the international project “Ukrainian Students’ International Communication Club” (USICC). The purpose of the communication club is to provide an opportunity for Ukrainian students and teachers to familiarise themselves with the American educational and scientific system in the context of its cultural and historical features, with the model of training young professionals, as well as to establish professional contacts with colleagues and students of the higher education. institutions of the USA.
The academic staff of the Department of Philology and Translation of KNUTD is working on an international academic credit mobility programme for higher education applicants of Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design and Baku Slavic University. Within the framework of the programmes English language practice: trip to Azerbaijan and Ukrainian and English language practice: trip to Ukraine, representatives of both universities delivered a thematic course of integrated lectures in Ukrainian and English.

Within the framework of international cooperation of KNUTD in the sphere of science and education, the staff of the Department of Philology and Translation systematically attracts leading foreign and domestic specialists and business representatives to conduct lectures and other educational activities for applicants of educational and professional programme “English Language: Translation in Business Communication to improve the quality of the educational process and promote the internationalisation of higher education. By attending the lectures, seminars and masterclasses offered, students gain up-to-date knowledge and acquire practical experience to help future professionals consciously develop their successful careers.
All Department of Philology and Translation courses are provided with educational and methodological literature. The teachers of the department regularly update materials on the disciplines taught in the modular environment of the educational process of the KNUTD: lecture notes, methodological instructions for seminar and practical classes, students' independent work, and sets of test tasks for current and modular controls.
At the current stage of societal development and in the context of the latest globalisation processes, leading to the diversification of business relations and rapidly increasing request for intercultural communication in foreign languages, primarily English, as a means of multinational communication, the demand for translation specialists in business communication sphere is also naturally increasing. Thorough training of specialists capable of filling the gaps in high-quality translation in business communication, in Ukraine in general and in Kyiv as a scientific and cultural centre of the country, is an urgent task. Thus, in 2021, the Department of Philology and Translation launched the course of training for the bachelor’s degree in the educational programme “English Language: translation in Business communication" (speciality B11 “Philology (by specialization)).
The educational programme aims to train competitive and socially responsible bilingual English–Ukrainian interpreters and translators in oral and written business communication who possess general and professional (linguistic and translation) competences and are capable of solving complex specialized tasks and practical problems in the field of philology characterised by complexity and uncertainty of conditions. In particular, this includes activities related to the analysis, creation, translation, and evaluation of written and oral texts of various genres and styles of business discourse in order to address professional tasks in the sphere of business communication. The programme meets the needs of the modern labour market both in Ukraine and abroad in the context of globalisation and opens up prospects for graduates’ professional realisation in the fields of intercultural communication and business.
The main objectives of the programme are to prepare specialists capable of addressing complex specialised tasks and practical problems in the field of philology, in particular through activities related to the analysis, creation (including translation) and evaluation of written and oral texts of various genres and styles, as well as the organisation of effective communication in a foreign-language environment.
Among the distinctive features of the proposed programme is the acquisition and development of general and professional competences in the areas of the English language, foreign literature, translation studies, and interpersonal, intercultural, and business communication (oral and written).
Particular emphasis is placed on the practical component of training. The educational programme provides for annual internships and offers opportunities for placements in translation agencies, international companies, and other organisations engaged in interlingual communication. Students are given the opportunity to develop and present their own projects and start-ups through participation in national and international conferences, competitions, and professional events.

The achievement of the aim and programme learning outcomes of the educational programme “English Language: Translation in Business Communication” is supported by licensed software provided by Wordfast LLC (21 licences), granted for free use as computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools to enhance productivity and translation quality across various platforms.
The curriculum also includes practice with comprehensive software for automated translation and management – a leading collaborative translation environment and TMS delivering premium solutions to the translation industry memoQ 
The Department of Philology and Translation has a high scientific and pedagogical potential. Experienced specialists whose qualifications correspond to the profile and direction of the educational components being taught and who have the necessary pedagogical and practical work experience are involved in implementing the programme. The educational process is carried out according to the programmes that meet modern world standards and the latest methods.
The Department's teaching staff comprehensively improves the practical component of training specialists. The result of such activities is the development of end-to-end practice programmes for higher education applicants. Permanent bases for internship and pedagogical practices are institutions, enterprises, and organizations with implementation contracts being signed, namely: the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ukraine (Kyiv), “TAS EVOTECH” LLC (Kyiv), the charitable organization "Charity Fund "East SOS" (Kyiv), the translation agency "InYaz" (Kyiv), the translation agency Admiral (Khmelnytskyi), “Zolota Seredina” LLC (Kyiv), “Belema Trade” LLC (Kyiv), Gymnasium No. 109 named after T. G. Shevchenko, Pechersk district, Kyiv, LLC "Education Center "Optima" (Kyiv).
In particular, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ukraine (UCCI), which unites entrepreneurs, legal entities, and citizens of Ukraine and develops Ukrainian businesses that are in demand on the world market, is a long-term partner of the Department of Philology and Translation. Representatives of the UCCI regularly participate in career guidance events at KNUTD and in monitoring the educational program "English: Translation in Business Communication" of the Department of Philology and Translation. They also provide KNUTD students with the opportunity to undergo industrial (translation) internship at their organization, act as supervisors for such student internships from the enterprise, and kindly invite our future translators to join UCCI events and step into a professional role.
Teachers of the Department of Philology and Translation introduce elements of project-based learning in their extracurricular work with students to acquire the skills of responsibility for their learning process and solve complex learning tasks independently or in groups.

The university stage of the Foreign Language Student Olympiad (English, German, French) is open to talented students who want to test their foreign language knowledge. The winners of this round of the Olympiad regularly participate in and win the All-Ukrainian Student Olympiad in the discipline of Foreign Language (English, German, French).
Foreign Languages Week
The Department of Philology and Translation organises many interesting events for students during the Foreign Languages Week. The students take an active part in the exhibition of wall newspapers and crossword puzzles, the exhibition of works by the Fashion Sketch design workshop, the presentation of state symbols of different countries, the exhibition of literature in foreign languages; senior students give presentations on linguistic and professional-oriented topics conduct online tours; participate in competitions for the best translation of a poetic or prose work, recitation of poetry in a foreign language; develop themed evenings such as «Halloween Meeting», «American Culture», «Deutsch im Spiel», «Deutsch kreativ», “Future translators: about the profession with love”, “Advantages and limitations of artificial intelligence during the artistic translation of a poetic work”, “Ukrainian translations of Robert Burns' poetry”, «Vasyl Stus' Translations of Rainer Maria Rilke's Poetry».
Students learn how to be competitive job seekers in the modern labour market: they use a foreign language as a working language and develop their language competencies, work together to create a presentation product and improve their teamwork skills, while also getting to know the cultures of other countries and acquiring intercultural competences.
Teachers of the Department of Philology and Translation prepare applicants for participation in the International Student Online Foreign Language Olympiad, the Petro Yatsyk International Ukrainian Language Competition, the International Spelling Contest in the Ukrainian Language (for learners studying Ukrainian as a foreign language), the All-Ukrainian Student Translation Competition «Artistic Word in World Culture», the startup project competition. «The Best Startup of KNUTD 2023», «The Best Startup of KNUTD 2024», «The Best Startup of KNUTD 2025».

By working in scientific language clubs and studying foreign language sources, students expand their knowledge of the speciality they are studying, learn to communicate in foreign languages on general scientific and special topics, identify the main features of professional texts (terminology, grammatical structures, etc.), share their experience in working with texts, and receive recommendations and clichés for oral and written professional communication.

Students and their tutors attend performances, museums, and exhibitions that encourage them to study national and world cultural heritage, help them deepen their knowledge, broaden their intellectual horizons, and inspire them to be creative in their studies.
