On 16th of June 2017 at the Kiev National University of Technology and Design, the International Scientific and Practical Seminar «Innovative materials and technologies of leather production: achievements of Smit and Zoon» was held.
The main aim of the seminar was the acquaintance of scientists and experts of the leather industry with modern methods of leather finishing from the company «Smit and Zoon». The company has 196 years of experience and is the leader in providing chemical materials for tannery manufacturers and technologies for their application.
The scientific and practical seminar was attended by more than 60 representatives from 25 tannery enterprises in the Ukraine and from abroad.
The participants and guests of the conference received a welcoming speech from the rector of the University Ivan Gryshchenko. He noted the importance of the scientific and practical seminar for high-quality education and the activation of communication between higher education institutions and modern specialized enterprises.
The Finishing technicians, Area Managers of «Smit Finishing» and the Product Managers of «Smit and Zoon» presented the latest developments in the liquid and cover finishing of the leather. Leathers and products, which used these finishing technologies, were demonstrated.
The seminar aroused the interest of tanner-practitioners during the discussion of the application features of innovative materials in practice.
As part of the seminar, a discussion was held on strengthening the relationship between KNUTD, the Department of Biotechnology, Leather and Fur with specialized leather enterprises.
During the meeting between the Rector of the KNUTD, Ivan Gryshchenko, the Owner of «Smit and Zoon», Marc Smit and the Managing Director of the Finishing Division of «Smit and Zoon», Jeroen Schipper, the prospects for scientific cooperation and opportunities for internships of students and teaching staff were discussed.
Students of the Department of Biotechnology, Leather and Fur took an active part in the preparation and organization of the seminar.
