Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design, represented by Rector Ivan Gryshchenko, supporting the position of the Ukrainian government and the headship of Ukrainian higher education institutions appeals to the world’s leading providers of scientific content and compilers of authoritative rankings of higher education institutions.
A full-scale military invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine threatens the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country, violates international law and human rights, and threatens the world peace. On the 12th day, the cities and villages of Ukraine are suffering from missile strikes, invaders’ tanks are moving on our roads, fighting is taking place on our streets, we lose our citizens and get wounded every hour, a lot of houses and infrastructure are destroyed.
At present, our scientists and teachers are forced to stop their direct activities – to conduct research, write scientific papers, give lectures, and with weapons in hand they have joined the defense of their country and citizens. Our children and students live in basements and bomb shelters. Hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians are forced to save their families by becoming refugees in the neighboring countries.
We ask you to support the Ukrainian academic community, which seeks to live in a free and secure world by expressing its immediate and clear response to the aggressor’s illegal actions. We are convinced that the responsibility for the actions of the Russian Federation lies with each of the citizens of that country, including their academic community, which has provided theoretical assistance in building weapons and ideological support for the development of criminal ideas that not only justify military invasion of the sovereign territory of Ukraine, but also pose a real, not a potential, threat to the peace in the whole world.
Therefore, we ask you to stop cooperating with academic institutions of the Russian Federation by stopping indexing of their scientific journals, books, conference materials and other scientific content in databases, membership of representatives of these institutions in editorial boards of scientific journals and the possibility of authors from these institutions to be published in scientific journals by blocking on the territory of this country the access to information resources and excluding these institutions from the rankings of higher education institutions.
