WAR IN UKRAINE: BIRMINGHAM EXHIBITION TELLS PEOPLE'S STORIES

The exhibition “We are here: from Ukraine”, which shares stories and photos from the people of Kyiv during the war, opened on April 4, 2022 at Centrala Gallery in Birmingham (the United Kingdom).

The exposition at Centrala was prepared by Natalia Rozhin, KNUTD graduate, a lecturer at Birmingham City University, KNUTD lecturers of the Department of Arts and Costume Design, and the Ukrainian students of the Faculty of Design, KNUTD, the participants of Erasmus+ program: Ilona Mandiradzhi, Ruslana Rudyuk, Anastasia Galushko, and Sofia Nikolaenko. It was generously supported by the Heart of England Community Foundation and Birmingham City University Near Neighbours.

Alicia Kaczmarek, director of Centrala, said, “The images for this exhibition have been produced by the Ukrainians in Birmingham who wanted to share messages from their families, friends, and colleagues who stayed in Kyiv or fled it. People really appreciated the personal aspect of the exhibition. Being able to read someone’s stories really gave them an understanding of people’s suffering in a war-torn country”.

A collection of posters, prints and other items were sold at the opening of the exhibition, with all proceeds going to support refugees. Nearly 300 people came to the gallery, gathered together in solidarity with Ukraine, and raised over £4,000 for Ukrainian refugees!

The article about the exhibition was published on the BBC War in Ukraine website: War in Ukraine: Birmingham exhibition tells people's stories - BBC News

We thank Natalia Rozhin, our partner from Birmingham City University, our students, the participants of Erasmus+ program, and everyone involved in the charity event!
