High-speed satellite Internet access is one of the most modern technologies developed by the world’s leading companies. SpaceX, led by Elon Musk, has been the most successful in this area. It has already deployed an orbital group of more than 2,400 satellites and continues to expand it. By 2027, their number will be 42,000. This has provided the highest coverage and data rate for systems of this type.

Following the start of Russia’s full-scale military aggression against Ukraine, SpaceX provided Ukraine with free access to the Starlink network and sent terminals to communicate with satellites. This equipment was primarily provided to the military and critical infrastructure companies, but the assistance program has been extended and educational institutions have now been able to connect to satellite Internet.

Thanks to the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, our University has received two sets of equipment for connection to Starlink. This made it possible to create backup Internet connection channels that work regardless of the availability of communication through the main fiber-optic lines, which is especially relevant during martial law. The experience of our University shows that the presence of a stable connection is crucial for the organization of a high-quality educational process, and scientific and administrative activities of a higher education institution. Therefore, the creation of additional communication channels is an unconditional step forward that will help increase the efficiency of our work.
