On August 21, 2022, the teachers of the Faculty of Design visited the Treasury of the National Museum of the History of Ukraine and listened to an interesting and informative lecture “Meanings and Rethinking” conducted by Iryna Udovychenko, a senior researcher at the Treasury of the National Museum of the History of Ukraine and contemporary jewelry art curator.
The presented material was based on the events that began in Ukraine on February 24, 2022. From that day on, everything in the life of Ukrainians was divided into before and after. The same thing happened with jewelry. The lecturer focused on six millennia of jewelry development before and six months after. It seemed that all previous history had been preparing us for this tough test. The teachers of the Department of Ergonomics and Design of KNUTD learned about the names of talented jewelers who changed their direction during the war. At the meeting, Iryna spoke about the current unions, associations of jewelers, and the main trends in jewelry art that help fight the aggressor of our country. During the lecture, the teachers interacted with the speaker and asked questions.
Demonstrating the presentation, Iryna Udovychenko spoke about jewelry from different eras and its design features. The expert suggested analyzing the ideas embodied in the works of ancestors – for the development of critical thinking, which is the basis for a democratic society. The way the jewelers began to fill the life destroyed by the war with meanings, convinces us that Ukraine will win.
This lecture was a continuation of a series of traditional meetings with Iryna Udovychenko to deepen the knowledge of teachers and applicants for higher education – future jewelry designers. Such events encourage further close cooperation between the educational and scientific communities, exchange of opinions on current trends in the jewelry industry development, and the latest trends in jewelry design.
