ROUND TABLE WITH THE STAKEHOLDERS OF THE DEPARTMENT OF ART AND FASHION DESIGN ABOUT EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS

The Faculty of Design of KNUTD regularly holds meetings with stakeholders to improve educational and professional programs and strengthen the practical orientation of the training of design specialists.

On October 20, 2022, such a meeting was held at the Department of Art and Fashion Design (AFD). As part of a round table with the stakeholders from the academic community, employers, seekers for higher education, and graduates, a public discussion of projects of educational and professional programs "Fashion Design", specialty 022 Design, bachelor's and master's educational levels took place with the participation of the Dean of the Faculty of Design, PhD, Oksana Pasko, members of the workgroups for the development of educational and professional programs (EPP) and scientific and pedagogical workers of the Department of AFD.

The moderator of the round table was the head of the Department of AFD, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Kalyna Pashkevych, who addressed the participants of the round table with an opening speech and emphasized the importance of stakeholders’ participation in the development of the EPP in order to improve its content following the needs of the modern labor market.

The guarantors of the EPPs "Fashion Design", specialty 022 Design, of the first level of higher education, Professor Kalyna Pashkevych, and of the second level of higher education, Professor Nataliia Chuprina, introduced the stakeholders to the features of educational and professional programs, the main goals, educational components (EC), which contribute to the formation of general and professional competencies and also help to achieve program learning outcomes.

The representatives of stakeholders from among employers and graduates took part in the discussion and expressed their opinions and suggestions regarding the improvement of bachelor's and master's training:

Maryna Polikarpova, a leading designer of the design bureau "Design Laboratory";

Bohdan Kass, a leading designer of the KASS brand;

Diana Aghaian, a leading designer, director of the "Diana Aghaian" studio;

Angela Bezroda, a leading designer and director of the "BEZRA" studio;

Oleksii Kraevskyi, designer;

Andrii Yeshchenko, executive director of  "Information Computer Systems" (Grazia CAD) and others.

Maryna Polikarpova paid attention to the need to expand the competencies of applicants in business education and the ability to possess entrepreneurial skills for carrying out design activities; designer Bohdan Kass emphasized the need for students to acquire skills in shaping and manufacturing technology, the ability to carry out the design process taking into account modern technologies and constructive solutions of clothing; designer Oleksii Kraevskyi suggested more often involving in the educational process practical designers not only from Ukraine but also from world schools of fashion and design. Andrii Yeshchenko pointed out the positive direction of the EPP, the presence of EC, within the framework of which students study general and specialized software to use in the professional activity of a fashion designer.

The stakeholders from the academic community, scientific and pedagogical workers from other higher education institutions of Ukraine, who train specialists in the specialty 022 Design, were also invited to the meeting:

Nataliia Skliarenko, PhD, Associate Professor, Lutsk National Technical University;

Larysa Krasniuk, PhD, Associate Professor, Khmelnytskyi National University;

Larysa Grygorova, PhD, Associate Professor, H.S. Skovoroda Kharkiv National  Pedagogical University;

Maria Artemenko, PhD, Associate Professor, Kherson National Technical University.

Colleagues shared their own experience of training designers in higher education institutions of Ukraine, generally favorably assessed the EPP content, and provided their suggestions for its improvement. Nataliia Skliarenko advised strengthening the scientific component in the preparation of master's level applicants.

Members of the working groups for the development of the EPP and academic staff of the Department of AFD, who were present at the meeting (Prof. O. Kolosnichenko, Prof. O. Yezhova, Prof. T. Krotova, Assoc. H. Kokorina, Assoc. O. Gerasymenko, Assoc. P Harkin, postgraduate student O. Tereshchenko), expressed their proposals and were interested in the opinions of the stakeholders regarding the constituent educational components of the EPP and the need to deepen the study of certain topics to improve the quality of specialist training.

The undergraduates (V. Kachur, R. Pasyshnichenko, I. Gladkykh, H. Garbarenko, S. Kurochka, and others) and master’s program students (A. Koriakina, D. Farbak, A. Monko, A. Antonova, O. Chukhalyova and others) took an active part in the discussion. Student Iryna Gladkykh expressed her suggestions for improving the "Fashion Design" EPP and offered to organize an additional meeting with the students to discuss proposals for improving the EPP. The interest of the students was aroused by the discussion of the need to strengthen the practical training of students of the "Fashion Design" EPP, expressed by the designer, a graduate of the Department of AFD, Diana Aghaian.

Based on the results of the meeting, a few suggestions from the stakeholders regarding the renewal of projects of educational programs at the bachelor's and master's levels of higher education "Fashion Design" were agreed upon, which will be taken into account.
