MEETING OF TEACHERS AND STUDENTS OF THE DEPARTMENT OF FASHION TECHNOLOGY WITH STAKEHOLDERS

On April 6, 2023, a meeting of the stakeholders was held with the academic staff and students of the Department of Fashion Technology studying under the educational and professional programs “Fashion Industry” and “Computer Design in the Fashion Industry”. The purpose of the meeting was to establish mutual relationships and develop an algorithm for the process of cooperation between representatives of business and education.

The representatives of the Department of Fashion Technology, guarantors of the educational and professional programs Professor Nataliia Pervaia, Associate Professor Victoria Kernesh, Associate Professor Liliya Chertenko, stakeholders of the educational programs, and business partners of KNUTD took an active part in the discussion:

Tetiana Zhdamarova – “Premier Socks”, Poltava;

Anna Kharchenko – PE “Toros-Group”, Kyiv;

Oleksandr Bondar – “Prime Shoes” LLC, Brovary;

Daryna Atamanenko – “Surikat”, a national manufacturer of bags and backpacks, Kyiv;

Tetiana Abramova – RITO Ukrainian knitwear brand, Kyiv.

Olha Haranina, Head of the Department of Fashion Technology, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor, opened the event. She presented her report on the importance of cooperation between the Department’s staff and potential employers. During the meeting, it was emphasized that the purpose of educational and professional programs at all levels is to provide theoretical and practical opportunities for higher education seekers to acquire theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the profession at a high level and expand the students’ potential and acquire competencies. This will contribute to more effective employment and improvement of scientific activity.

Liudmyla Halavska, Professor of the Department of Fashion Technology, introduced the business representatives Tetiana Zhdamarova (“Premier Socks”, Poltava) and Anna Kharchenko (PE “Toros-Group”, Kyiv), noting the relevance of their practical activities and the possibility of further scientific cooperation with the Department of Fashion Technology.

The teachers of the Department of Fashion Technology Professor N. Pervaia and Associate Professor A. Babich analyzed in detail with the business representatives the competencies that should be improved in the educational and professional programs (EPPs). They also discussed the possibility of production workers providing the necessary competencies to higher education seekers under the EPP.

The stakeholder O. Bondar highlighted the current issues of the current state of the industry and the production of the fashion industry products. O. Bondar noted that modern specialists in specialty 182 – “Technologies of Light Industry” are urgently needed in the field, therefore professional training of students of the educational programs “Fashion Industry” and “Computer Design in the Fashion Industry” is an important stage of cooperation between the educational institution and business. Also, during the conversation, the content of educational components and professional competencies needed for training competitive higher education seekers in the labor market was analyzed.

The guarantors of the educational programs emphasized the importance of education seekers undergoing practical training in the conditions of modern production, in particular, expanding the possibilities of introducing non-formal, informal, and dual education into the educational process.

The stakeholder O. Bondar’s participation in the educational programs is implemented through participation in public lectures and the provision of all kinds of practices, research, and creative student projects at the PRIME SHOUZ LLC.

D. Atamanenko noted the possibility of internships for the students of the “Fashion Industry” and “Computer Design in the Fashion Industry” workshops at the base of the national manufacturer of bags and backpacks “Surikat”. There is also the possibility of using their technical capabilities in training students for dual education.

T. Zhdamarova emphasized that graduates of the Department have considerable creative potential and always have a certain priority among other potential candidates for positions at “Premier Socks” in Poltava.

A. Kharchenko noted that PE “Toros-Group” (Kyiv) invited students of the “Fashion Industry” and “Computer Design in the Fashion Industry” programs of the first (bachelor’s) and second (master’s) levels of higher education to the enterprise to expand their practical professional skills in creating medical knitted products.

As part of the meeting, a tour of the educational and scientific laboratories of the Department of Fashion Technology was conducted, namely: the educational and scientific laboratory of sewing technologies in the fashion industry SOFTORG, the educational and scientific laboratory of design and technological preparation for the production of leather products and the educational and scientific 3D laboratory of anthropometric studies.

The business representatives learned about the existing modern base for the student training, a package of modern software for the work of a designer-constructor, and unique developments of the students of the Department of Fashion Technology. It is worth noting that the representatives of the business had a positive impression because the students have the opportunity to learn about modern technological equipment and use unique CAD programs, and modern 3D devices to create collections of products and design projects.

This meeting allowed the guarantors of the educational and professional programs “Fashion Industry” and “Computer Design in the Fashion Industry” to study the opinions of all the parties interested in future graduates' competitiveness. This will contribute to improving the quality of the developed educational and professional programs.

The guarantors of the educational and professional programs thanked the participants of the meeting for their well-founded proposals and assured them that they will be taken into account during the review of the curricula and educational and professional training programs “Fashion Industry” and “Computer Design in the Fashion Industry” for bachelor and master students.
