On April 27, 2023, the V International Scientific and Practical Conference “Current Problems of Modern Design”, organized by the Faculty of Design, was held at Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design, which brought together famous scientists, practicing designers, art critics and leading specialists from various fields of design from Ukraine, Moldova, Great Britain, the People’s Republic of China, Romania, Poland, and other countries.
The conference was held in a hybrid format on the initiative of Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design under the auspices of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine with the support of the international project “INTREPID-HEI”. Co-organizers of the conference were CUMULUS International Association of Universities and Colleges of Art, Design and Media, Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture, Ion Creangă State Pedagogical University (Moldova), Technical University of Moldova (Moldova), Kielce University of Technology (Poland), Kyiv Institute of the Qilu University of Technology (the People’s Republic of China), Changchun Institute of Education (the People’s Republic of China), Dangarin State University (Tajikistan), Gheorghe Asachi Technical University (Romania), the Baltic International Academy (Latvia), the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, and the Union of Designers of Ukraine.
The moderator of the event was the Dean of the Faculty of Design of KNUTD, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Oksana Pasko.
On the occasion of the opening, the Rector of Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor, Academician of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, Laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology, Ivan Gryshchenko, addressed the participants of the conference with a welcome speech. He wished everyone productive work and the formation during the scientific discussion of new ideas that will become strategic vectors for the artistic development of Ukraine and other countries.
Wishes for the good work of the conference were conveyed by the Vice-rector for Scientific and Innovative Activities of the University, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor Lyudmila Hanushchak-Efimenko.
Nataliya Rozhyn, a representative of the Faculty of Art, Design and Media of the University of Birmingham from Great Britain, addressed the participants of the conference with sincere congratulations from the foreign partners of the Faculty of Design, KNUTD.
The Faculty of Design of KNUTD has friendly relations with the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, the Union of Designers of Ukraine, and the National Union of Photographic Artists of Ukraine, the teachers of the Faculty are members of these creative communities.
Congratulations to the participants and guests of the conference were expressed by the chairman of the board of the Union of Designers of Ukraine, Candidate of Art History, associate professor Yuriy Borysov, who emphasized the importance of quality training of young designers and sincerely congratulated all the participants on the World Design Day.
Partners from Moldova took part in the conference. The Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design of Ion Creangă State Pedagogical University, Doctor of Arts, Professor Anna Simak addressed the participants with a welcome speech.
Serhii Tronchu, Doctor of Architecture, Professor, Dean of the Faculty of Textiles and Printing at the Technical University of Moldova, also expressed his best wishes for productive work.

Doctor of Architecture, Professor, Head of the Department of Design at Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture Yuliia Tretiak took part in the conference. She welcomed the participants and presented a report on “Modern trends in the formation and development of design theory and practice in Ukraine”.
Sincere words of congratulations to the participants of the conference were expressed in a video address by Doctor of Art History, Professor, Head of the Department of Decorative and Applied Art of M. Rylsky Institute of Art History of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Tetiana Kara-Vasylieva.
Olha Korobova, a representative of the Berdyansk State Pedagogical University, delivered a report in English on the topic “Media literacy in modern education, challenges and trends”.
The following speakers participated in the conference: Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Arts of Pavlo Tychyna Uman State Pedagogical University Anatoliy Korol with a report on the topic “Use of cinematography technology in multimedia design”; Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor, Deputy Director of the Institute for Research, International and Regional Relations of Zhytomyr State University named after I. Franko Nataliia Kolesnyk with a report on the topic “Design concept of creating a multimedia book: theory and practice”; post-graduate student of Kyiv State Academy of Decorative and Applied Arts and Design named after M. Boichuk Nataliia Bondarenko with a report on the topic “Multimedia design as a teaching tool”.
After all the greetings and interesting reports at the plenary session, the moderator of the conference, Oksana Pasko, invited everyone present to a coffee break.
After the break, the meetings of six conference platforms were held, in which more than 200 participants from different countries of the world took part - scientists, students, and postgraduates. There was an exchange of experience and results of scientific research on current design problems of designers, artists, and scientists in design and art specialties of Ukraine, other countries of Europe and the world.

Summarizing the results of the conference, it can be stated that the problems and difficulties caused by the war did not prevent the conference from being held at a high professional level, in a warm, friendly, and scientific atmosphere. The presented wide geography of the participants and the diversity of the subjects of the reports testify to the relevance and productivity of interdisciplinary approaches, and the effectiveness of the interaction of representatives of science and art both in scientific research and in practical work and education.
