On May 19, 2023, the teachers and students of the Department of Art and Fashion Design of KNUTD at the invitation of the teaching staff and students of Gymnasium No. 178 in Kyiv held an online seminar “Ukrainian National Costume: Cultural Code of the Nation” dedicated to Vyshyvanka Day.
The seminar was moderated by Kalyna Pashkevych, Doctor of Engineering, Professor, Head of the Department of Art and Fashion Design, Olena Gerasymenko, PhD, associate professor of the Department of Art and Fashion Design and Julia Riabukha, bachelor’s degree student of the "Fashion Design" educational program. The schoolchildren and gymnasium teachers joined the event online.
KNUTD representatives talked about the Ukrainian national dress and the use of its elements in modern clothes, about how world-famous designers draw inspiration from Ukrainian culture and use Ukrainian embroidery, decor, headdress, jewelry, etc. in their collections on world catwalks.

Julia Riabukha prepared an interesting report about authentic Ukrainian clothing and products of modern Ukrainian brands in the national style. Julia, whose bachelor’s thesis topic is the development of a clothing collection based on the study of the national dress of the Poltava region, emphasized the importance of studying Ukrainian culture and preserving its heritage.

Olena Gerasymenko prepared a story about Ukrainian traditional jewelry, its varieties, materials used to make it, and conducted an analysis of the assortment of jewelry and accessories with Ukrainian symbols in the design of modern Ukrainian brands.

Kalyna Pashkevych, Head of the Department of Art and Fashion Design, introduced the high school students to the educational programs of the Faculty of Design and other faculties of KNUTD and invited them to study at Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design.
