The third Saturday of May is a special day for all scientists of Ukraine, because the Day of Science is traditionally celebrated on this day.
On May 19, 2023, on the occasion of the Day of Science in Ukraine, the molecular pharmacology, chemogenomics and biogerontology laboratory (room 1-0238) held a scientific intensive "Open Lab" on the topic "R&D of solid dosage forms". The event was broadcast live on the official YouTube page of the Department of Industrial Pharmacy of KNUTD.
First-year students of the specialty 226 Pharmacy, industrial pharmacy, as well as entrants took part in the scientific event. Each of those present not only saw, but also learned how to use modern research equipment and felt himself in the role of a real scientist.
At the beginning of the scientific intensive, the participants of the event learned about the importance of increasing the solubility of poorly soluble active pharmaceutical ingredients, which directly affects their bioavailability. Next, the future scientists themselves formed solid dispersed systems using the "cotton candy" method and used in making of tablets and capsules.
Then the students analyzed the pharmaco-technological indicators of the received dosage forms according to the methods of the State Pharmacopoeia of Ukraine, in particular, determined the average weight and dimensions of the received tablets and conducted the test "Resistance of tablets to crushing" and the test "Dissolution of solid dosed dosage forms".
At the end of the intensive, the students were convinced that their work had a positive result, because by their own efforts they were able to significantly increase the solubility of a known anti-inflammatory, but difficult to dissolve, active pharmaceutical ingredient.
During 4 hours of cooperation in the scientific laboratory, the participants gained new knowledge, received certificates, and most importantly, motivation for development in the future profession.
We hope that events such as the scientific intensive "Open Lab" will start the process of scientific knowledge of our students, which will increase the country's scientific center in the future.
