From 12.07.2023 to 14.07.2023 at the National Technical University of Ukraine "Ihor Sikorskyi Kyiv Polytechnic Institute", the traditional XVI International Open Student Programming Olympiad named after S. Lebedev and V. Hlushkov – KPI-OPEN was held. The KPI-OPEN Olympiad is one of the largest face-to-face programming competitions in the world. This year, 168 teams from 35 schools, 8 colleges and 125 universities of Ukraine, as well as from Romania, Lithuania and Poland took part in the competition. The teams competed for the championship and special prizes from the Olympiad partners.
The main purpose of the Olympiad is to draw society's attention to intellectual competitions among students, popularize intellectual development and teamwork, raise the professional level of young experts, develop inter-university ties, and establish personal contacts between students of different cities and countries. At the same time, IT companies that join the Olympics get an excellent chance to find new employees among the best of the best.
The practice of holding presentations, seminars and lectures together with the Olympiad has also become established, where specialists of IT companies share their practical experience and knowledge, as well as introduce young programmers to the tasks facing the industry at this stage.
This year, the team of the Institute of Engineering and Information Technologies of KNUTD under the name "Bites" took part in the competition for the first time. Students of the specialty 123 "Computer Engineering" Serhii Yurkovskyi, Andrii Androschuk and Dmytro Afanasiev performed in our team, the team coach was associate professor of the Department of Computer Engineering and Electromechanics Dmytro Statsenko.
Our team, unfortunately, did not receive prize places. Taking 87th place in the middle of the tournament table, our boys demonstrated a fairly high level of knowledge. Participation in the Olympiad is valuable practical experience and an opportunity to establish new friendly and professional contacts. The team plans to improve its result next year. This is a good incentive for successful training and professional improvement.
We wish success to our students!
