From May 26 to August 25, 2023, at the National Museum of Ukrainian Folk Decorative Art, the project "STRENGTH OF FRAGILITY" continues, presenting an exhibition of ceramic panels by the famous ceramic artist Olha Rapai. For the first time, visitors to the museum can see the works of the outstanding artist, created in the 80s of the XX century, which decorated the interiors of the Bratislava hotel in Kyiv, and were then considered lost.
This is a joint project of the National Museum of Ukrainian Folk Decorative Art and the Association of Art Critics, Experts, Appraisers and Restorers of Ukraine, whose experts have made considerable efforts to revive and preserve this part of Olha Rapai's creative work and present it to the general public.
Experts of the Department of Art and Fashion Design of KNUTD also joined this project. At the request of colleagues from the Association, teachers and students of the Department of AFD identified the national costumes depicted on the ceramic panels of the famous artist Olha Rapai.
At the opening of an exhibition of ceramic panels by the famous ceramist Olha Rapai
Master's degree students Anhelina Koriakina and Alina Monko (Group MgD2-22) under the guidance of Professor Kalyna Pashkevych, head of the Department of AFD, conducted a scientific study and provided a description of the components of national costumes from different countries of the world. Not only the countries of origin of the costumes were identified but also the regions, the types of clothing, typical colors, materials, decoration, embroidery and decorations were described.
The well-known ceramist Olha Rapai quite accurately recreated clothes, hats, shoes and costume accessories in her works. This task was interesting for students not only in gaining new knowledge about the history of costume, but also as an example of working on a real creative project, which was completed with an exhibition of works.
