On September 12, 2023, at the Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design, a traditional lecture on academic integrity was held for higher education students of the Faculty of Mechatronics and Computer Technologies who enrolled in the year 2023. The lecture was conducted by Dr. Olena Stepanova, a professor of cultural studies and the head of the Center for Quality Management in Educational Activities.

Before the lecture began, a welcoming address was delivered to the higher education students by the Dean of the Faculty of Mechatronics and Computer Technologies, Volodymyr Pavlenko.

The university community once again emphasized the importance of academic integrity during a recent lecture delivered by Ms. Olena. Her presentation highlighted the key aspects of this fundamental value, which underpins the educational process and scientific research in universities.

Academic integrity, defined as honesty, integrity and responsibility of students and faculty regarding their academic efforts, was underscored as a crucial component of university culture. Ms. Olena emphasized that educational institutions serve as primary agents in fostering academic integrity by providing students with necessary information and skills in this regard.

This lecture emphasized that academic integrity is not just a duty but also an opportunity for developing critical thinking and contributes to the formation of future professionals and societal leaders. Students were encouraged to use their own thoughts, ideas and words when writing their academic papers, while plagiarism and copying without proper source attribution were deemed unacceptable.

Academic group mentors were present at the lecture, demonstrating support for this vital principle in university activities. The lecture not only imparted valuable information to students but also inspired them to embrace responsibility and integrity in the educational process. The ability to work honestly and ethically was recognized as a key attribute for the future careers of any professional.
