The Department of Physical Education and Sports organized a number of events for the first-year students in order to foster involvement of the students majoring in «Physical culture and sports» in the historical heritage and national traditions, in particular in physical culture and sports. At first, students of the group BFR-23 learnt about the history of Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design and its achievements in sports.

They also visited the memorial to the first school in Kyivan Rus on Starokyivska Gora, which was unveiled in 1988 on the occasion of the 1000th anniversary of the founding of this school.
In order to better understand the role and place of physical culture and sports as a social phenomenon in the life of Ukrainian society at various stages of its development, on September 11, 2023, the future specialists in physical culture and sports visited the Museum of the History of Ukraine on a thematic excursion, which was dedicated to military-physical education in Kyivan Rus. On the panorama, the students looked at the borders of Kyiv in the 13th century, held an ancient silver hryvnia, examined the exhibits that were found on the territory of the Tithe Church, destroyed by the hordes of Khan Batu in 1240. Near the museum, they toured the ruins of the Tithe Church and the location of Princess Olga's palace.
On September 17, 2023, the first-year students visited the Center for Interactive History «Kyivgrad» in the laboratory of historical reconstruction of the Ukrainian State Center for Out-of-school Education in the perspectives of learning about physical education in the Middle Ages from «The History of Physical Culture and Sports».
In the minds of the Old Russian people, health and physical capabilities were important for a full life, highly productive work and defense of the Motherland. The ideal of a hero, who combines high moral qualities and physical perfection, reigned. In Kyivan Rus, there were different of types of physical education, which ensured an increase in the motor activity of the population and nurtured the strong-willed qualities of the individual. Special military games, training, and duels were used for military and physical training of soldiers. Warriors constantly practiced archery, crossbow, sword, axe, saber, spear and knife throwing.
Thanks to the head of the Center Yevhenіі Rіazantsev, the students had the opportunity to try on medieval helmets, look at knight's armor and shoot medieval bow analogues. Thus, boys and girls more vividly imagined the originality of the physical hardening of our ancestors in the 10th - 16th centuries.
The students were inspired by the impressions and created a video clip «Sport is Victory», in which they pointed out the constant need in the history of mankind for physical training in the fight against nature and enemies and encouraged modern youth to go in for sports:
The conducted events help future specialists in physical culture and sports to form historical identity, understand the retrospectives of physical culture and sports, and encourage them to study and preserve the historical heritage of the Ukrainian people, to be worthy of the marcial glory of our ancestors.
Let's hold the educational front together!
