On October 11, 2023, as part of an educational event, higher education students from the Department of Information and Computer Technologies, Faculty of Mechatronics and Computer Technologies, led by Associate Professor Antonina VOLIVACH, visited the Museum of the Ukrainian Diaspora and the exhibition Our Sikorsky.
The purpose of the excursion was to acquaint higher education students with the life and scientific journey of the prominent Ukrainian aircraft designer Igor Sikorsky, his contributions to the advancement of science and the Ukrainian diaspora.
During the excursion, higher education students received a wealth of interesting and captivating information about Igor Sikorsky’s scientific activities and his contributions to aviation. They explored unique exhibits, rare photographs of the Sikorsky family, archival documents, American and French aviation-themed posters, as well as models of aircraft (crafted for the museum by the best aviation modelers). This included a model of the first helicopter, the H-2, and a model of the BIS-2 airplane, both preserved in the museum. Additionally, they watched a short film in English with subtitles, narrated (off-screen) by Igor Sikorsky himself.
The visit to the Ukrainian Diaspora Museum enhanced the understanding of higher education students regarding Igor Sikorsky's scientific activities and his significant contributions to the field of aviation engineering. This event increased their appreciation for the importance of Ukrainian scientists contributions in a global context and within the Ukrainian diaspora.
At the end of the tour, students had the opportunity to ask questions, express their thoughts, and share their impressions.
We sincerely thank the museum staff for this fascinating journey into the scientific past.
