On October 17, 2023, a public lecture by Geert Potters, Professor of Bioengineering Sciences at the Maritime Academy of Antwerp (Belgium), was organized by the Department of Biotechnology, Leather and Fur. The lecture "Corrosion by microorganisms – a titanic catastrophy" discussed the economic losses caused by various types of corrosion, as well as the role of microorganisms in this process. The lecturer introduced the predictions of metal corrosion calculated by theoretical models and analyzed the results of comparison with case studies on the example of ships and constructions. The students of the Faculty of Chemical and Biopharmaceutical Technologies had the opportunity to ask questions and discuss the importance of this topic for the industry of Ukraine and the world.
