In order to improve the quality of the educational process and enhance the professional competencies of bachelor's degree students studying Tourism and Recreation and Hotel and Restaurant Business (Faculty of Cultural and Creative Industries), a lecture with Yulia Tolkodubova was held on 23 October 2023.
During the meeting, Yulia, the owner of the tourist and event company «Wellness travel club», the organiser of multicultural projects on the topic: «Living Traditions» - the unity of the past, present and future within the framework of the multicultural project «Berehynia Tradytsii» ("The Guardian of Traditions"), demonstrated photo works that together form a chain of religious and astronomical holidays characteristic of each month in the calendar of our ancestors, rituals that are in Ukrainian culture: Christmas, Easter, Kupayla, Harvest, Pokrova. The project "Berehynia Tradytsii" is striking in its goal of uniting people and preserving cultural values, traditions, and identity.
The lecture was held as part of the training courses «Tourism Management» and «Tourism Local History», with the aim of acquiring such professional competencies as the ability to apply knowledge in practical situations, preserve and enhance moral, cultural, scientific values and achievements of society based on an understanding of the history and patterns of development of the subject area, its place in the general system of knowledge about nature and society.
At the end of the lecture, the students summarised that heritage is an integral part of the identity, belonging and sense of well-being of people around the world. Communities are connected to their sacred monuments, places, landscapes, artefacts, and when this heritage is damaged or denied, it destroys not only the knowledge and memory of the past, but also the building blocks of peace for the future.
We are inspired by the efforts of people both inside and outside the country to protect heritage among many other pressing needs.
