The Department of Philology and Translation organized an interesting event «Literary Salon “Ukrainian Word”» in the conference hall (room 1-0130) on October 27, 2023 at 12:00 for future interpreters and teachers of Ukrainian and English, as well as for students from Azerbaijan who study at our university.

Students and teachers gathered in the university hall to listen to wonderful Ukrainian poetry on the Day of Ukrainian Language and Literacy, and interested applicants and friends of the department joined the conference online. The meeting was moderated by associate professor Svitlana Dvorianchykova.

Students of the BAM-23 and BVU-23 groups – Kateryna Alyoshyna, Kateryna Bosenko, Mariana Haiduk, Kamila Hryb, Artem Zavhorodnii, Angelina Kovalenko, Denys Nevtyra, Oleksandra Ungurian, Oleksandra Shevtsova, and Ada Yakymova – had been preparing for the event for several weeks under the guidance of curator Lyudmyla Roenko, and therefore demonstrated a masterful recitation of poems by Taras Shevchenko, Vasyl Symonenko, Lina Kostenko, Borys Hrinchenko, Oksana Zabuzhko, and Serhiy Zhadan. The literary salon was also decorated with our students’ own poetry, for which the audience awarded the authors with applause.

The community was cordially greeted by the department’s longtime partner, Vice-President of the International Cultural and Educational Association (ICEA) and the Ukrainian-American Association of College Educators (UAACE), Director of International Programs Olena Dolyniak-Seitz.

The foreign students were interested in the linguistic task of associate professor Svitlana Dvorianchykova, in which the lecturer offered them to compare the original poem by Taras Shevchenko “My testament” and the translation of this work into Azerbaijani.

The hour, during which the melodious Ukrainian speech sounded, flew by unnoticed.

In memory of the pleasant meeting, our talented students presented their mentors with a calligraphy stand with their favorite lines from Ukrainian poetry.
