On November 2, 2023 an excursion for the 2nd and 3rd-year students of the first (bachelor’s) level of higher education under the educational programs «Fashion industry» and «Design and technology of garments» was held at the company «SURIKAT» (Kyiv).
The company «SURIKAT» is a modern manufacturer of backpacks and handbags, which has been operating on the Ukrainian market since 2012. The company specializes in the production of a wide range of products: backpacks, including childrens’ ones, bags, covers, tactical equipment for the military, products for special purposes by individual order, advertising corporate products from synthetic and natural materials (Oxford, Cordura), etc.

Director of the company Mykhailo Kucherenko and marketer Alina Khaz warmly welcomed the students and teachers and told about the updated range of products. Some products of the company were developed at the request of the military, namely:
- double-sided fabric with author's print for covers for the purpose of seasonal masking of objects;
- overshoes to protect soldiers from dirt and moisture;
- covers for equipment, etc.
Mykhailo Kucherenko introduced the students in detail to the technological process of manufacturing products, the equipment of the main production workshops of the enterprise, demonstrated the operation of modern automatic machines, cutting machines, and a device for automated braid cutting.
Experienced specialists of the company «SURIKAT» use advanced technical equipment of the companies «Juki», «Siruba», «Typical», and test new automatic equipment.
The management of the company willingly involves students of Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design in the production process, trains them and gives them the opportunity to become part of a friendly and professional team. The company's doors are always open for talented young people. Recently, three students of the educational program «Fashion Industry» at the bachelor's and master's levels of higher education have been employed in production as designers and seamstresses.
As part of the meeting, a round table was also held by representatives of the group providing educational programs «Design and technology of garments» and «Fashion industry» (Oksana Vodzinska, PhD (Technical Sciences), associate professor, Maryna Yatsenko, PhD (Technical Sciences), associate professor, Svitlana Lozovenko, assistant, Larysa Bilotska, PhD (Technical Sciences), associate professor, Victoria Kernesh, PhD (Technical Sciences), associate professor), with the external stakeholders who expressed interest in further cooperation with Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design.
The meeting resulted in proposals regarding the prospects for further work between the company and the Department of fashion technologies within the framework of educational and scientific components, in particular: the introduction of dual education of students on the basis of production, the completion of production practice, the holding of open lectures by the company's specialists for students of the faculty, joint scientific developments, the participation of representatives companies in the scientific and practical conference and other events of the University.
