"We will not give the autumn depression a single chance" - this was the slogan of October for students of the speciality 105 "Applied Physics and Nanomaterials". At the beginning of the month, on 29 September 2023, students of the BNT-21 group together with the guarantor of the EP Iryna Oleynikova visited the Lashkariov Institute of Semiconductor Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, where they had the opportunity to discuss the educational program “Nano- and Microtechnologies in Design” with Yurii Kolomzarov, Senior Researcher at the Optoelectronics Department, PhD in Engineering. The stakeholder of the program provided detailed information on research opportunities and areas of cooperation for student research work. The meeting also launched the practice of conducting "on-site" laboratory classes, in particular in the course "Preparation of Nanomaterials".
First-year students began their experience of the University's research activities with a visit to the KNUTD Scientific and Technical Library on 5 October 2023. A speech on information culture and a demonstration of unique publications interested the students of the BNT-23 group, and they were among the first to complete the quest to create a bibliographic list. The Department of Applied Physics and Higher Mathematics started a system of student mentoring or tutoring to unite the student community and help newcomers adapt to student life, as well as to provide them with useful skills. At this event, third-year student Anastasia Tsverkunova joined the first-year students and they had the opportunity to receive useful advice from her.
The students of the BNT-22 group joined other students of the Institute of Engineering and Information Technology on a tour to the SoftServe IT Company on 4 October 2023. The students had the opportunity to learn how IT companies work and what products they represent.
The students of BNT-23 group continued their acquaintance with the research work of the University on 26 October 2023 during the XII International Scientific and Practical Conference "Energy Efficient University". The students were interested not only in scientific reports but also in the student poster competition "Save ENERGY-2023", as the educational program includes design activities.
On 1 November 2023, students had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of design and high technology at the same time. This symbiosis of science and design was created at Tiger, where nanoprinting is used to create real masterpieces on glass, wood and stone surfaces. Visiting companies like this is the best demonstration of the combination of aesthetics and science. The founder and head of the company, Victoria Moroz, gave us a wonderful tour, proudly and lovingly presenting the entire range of her products. Each product combines reliability, quality and artistic individuality of the decor. Inspired, the members of the science student club ”Illusions and the Physical World” decided to use the company's exclusive materials in creating future start-ups.
This warm autumn was full of interesting events for students studying under the educational program “Nano- and Microtechnologies in Design”. In all events, students were accompanied by the group curator, associate professor of the Department of Applied Physics and Higher Mathematics Iryna Oleinikova.
