On November 16, 2023, the Department of Interior and Furniture Design hosted a lecture by a guest professor Luigi Fiumara “Development and Modernity of Organic Environmental Design” for students of the Environment Design educational programs at the bachelor’s and master’s levels.
Luigi Fiumara, professor, architect, member of the Swiss Society of Engineers and Architects (SIA), president of the International Forum “Man and Architecture” (IFMA) with headquarters in the Netherlands, has been researching and embodying the development and principles of organic architecture and environmental design in his projects for more than 20 years.
The lecturer shared the results of his own research with the students. Numerous examples from the works of outstanding masters of organic design showed the formation of this direction and its development for more than a century. Professor Fiumara demonstrated and analysed drawings and photographs of buildings and their interiors, from the founders of organic design at the turn of the century A. Gaudi, R. Steiner and L. H. Sullivan, outstanding masters of the last century F. L. Wright and H. Sharoun, to modern architects S. Calatrava, T. Alberts and M. van Hut, and others. The lecturer paid special attention to the fact how the organic design of the environment expresses trends in the development of human consciousness, in particular, the desire for freedom and individuality, a healthy lifestyle, self-discovery and self-development, etc. The lecture was held in English.
The students, future designers, showed great interest in the lecture material and expressed their desire to familiarize themselves with the works of Professor Fiumara based on the principles of organic design, so the professor promised to hold another meeting during his next visit to Ukraine, which he is planning in a few months.
Many thanks to Professor Luigi Fiumara for a meaningful lecture!
