On November 21, 2023, a scientific and methodological webinar for the academic staff of the Faculty of Design "The purpose and tasks of coursework as part of the training of future designers" was held online.
The webinar was moderated by Kalyna Pashkevych, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Design. The webinar was attended by the heads of the departments of the Faculty of Design, research and teaching staff, including the guarantors of the educational programs "Fashion Design" - Olena Herasymenko, Doctor of Philosophy, Associate Professor of the Department of Art and Fashion Design, EP "Environmental Design" - Tetiana Bulhakova, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Interior and Fashion Design, EP "Design (by type)" - Ruslana Khynevych, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Multimedia Design, and others.
The participants of the webinar discussed the coursework content and structure in the disciplines "Complex design engineering" for bachelor's degree students, and in the disciplines "Design (by type)", "Design and presentation of fashion collections", "Engineering in environmental design" for master's degree students.
The webinar included an exchange of experience in formulating the goals and objectives, content and structure of coursework as an effective means of consolidating, deepening and generalizing the knowledge gained during the course of study and applying it to the complex solution of a specific professional task.
Danylo Kosenko, Candidate of Arts, Head of the Department of Interior and Furniture Design, spoke about the structure and content of the coursework sections for future environmental designers, emphasized the importance of the project component of the coursework for the formation of the ability to practically implement the results of the problem research in independently performed developments.
Olena Kolosnichenko, Doctor of Arts, Professor, Professor of the Department of Art and Fashion Design, introduced the coursework structure and content in the discipline "Complex design engineering" for future fashion designers, suggested paying attention to pre-project research in the coursework to develop the skills of students to critically analyze scientific sources and encourage students to conduct independent research.
Nataliia Chuprina, Doctor of Arts, Professor, Head of the Department of Multimedia Design, emphasized that regardless of the design object, the sequence of its development is similar, so the content of coursework for training fashion, environmental, graphic, and multimedia designers, conducted by the Faculty of Design, can be similar, taking into account the specifics of the industry. She also noted that the problems of scientific research solved in the coursework of students can be continued in the qualification works of bachelors and masters.
Professor, Doctor of Philosophy Oleksandra Kolisnyk and Associate Professor Oksana Maznichenko (Department of Graphic Design) proposed to update and clarify the topics of coursework, taking into account innovations and current trends in modern design.
The webinar was useful for all the participants, as they discussed pressing issues and identified ways to update the guidelines for coursework as part of the educational process and an effective tool for developing students' ability to analyse best practices and summarise their own observations.
